Have you tried updating your video driver?

Make sure you have the actual display drivers for your monitor installed, too. The generic windows drivers are known to cause this, since the game scans for available resolutions based on windows and the driver.

But if you can't get the driver, open your user.setting file in C:\Users\youruser\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting, and you can manually set which resolution you want to use.

If you don't see AppData, go into explorer settings and enable "Show hidden files and folders" :)

Nvida was one of the windows support updates. I am glad I am using ATI on my PC. I will try this and see.

I actually meant the physical monitor driver, not the card, but you never know :P

For video cards, go to the manufacturer's website for drivers.

Yeah, windows update drivers are usually quite old and therefore not much good :)

Same problem here.  Never got an option to enter in my serial, so I downloaded Impulse, which has it saved.  Still won't let me change the res.  This is Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit.

I set it manually.  And yes, I'm using the right display drivers.  They're 167.15 Gateway-branded.

As for the .INF for the monitor, the 17" 1920x1200 panel is set to autodetect.

Thanks for your response but I am using ATI all other games work fine and do not crash the system. I am using Vista x64 SP1 and the updated display drivers. This is not a ATI problem or Vista do to it's not crashing World-In-Conflict, Command-And-Conquer, Free-Space2. But I hate to say it but it looks like Sins<X3 . I disabled crossfire and used only 1 of the 3870 not luck but it did take a lot longer to crash hours.

The new update will sport a new graphics engine right?

The new update will have some tweaks to the engine, yes. You can try it out, it's in public beta :)
