Microsoft has nothing to do with SoaSE. And I doubt stardock is going to just "shut down" the online service any time soon.

Look at wc3, it's been up for years.

Sins is indie, since Ironclad is an indie developer (ie, not a part of any major publisher/studio) that self-funded most of the development costs
