[bug] Level 1 Progenitor can have both bomber and fighter squad

How to reproduce:

1. Build progenitor
2. Let it build a bomber squad
3. Right click on bomber icon
4. Before bombers have docked, build fighter squad

Although the GUI says 1 Fighter, 0 Bombers, you can still see the bomber squad is there, it also seems to attack enemies like a normal squad.

This is a generic bug with strike craft, any ship that has them can do this :)

Yes, it's been a known bug since the early beta release, but for some reason (and it's been OVER a month) they have not even released a quick-fix for it. It's making testing MP near impossible too, so a fix was needed long ago.

The game is not fun with this bug, as it makes carriers the only option to build

The AI does not take advantage of this "feature" does it? I don't think it does. That said, any game played against an AI can be played sans the bug if the player decides not to exploit.

Also, maybe we need a sticky about this bug so that these threads will stop.

Never seen the ai take advantage of it, but I have not really looked.  However it is impossible not to exploit it if you want to change your mix of strike craft. That being the case, it follows that it should always be exploited unless you never ever change your strike craft ratio, perhaps by setting a policy of 1 fighter 1 bomber per carrier. Which seems a poor solution as it lessens the value of carrier versatility.

are you sure that that the AI is not using this, because i've seen more strike craft than ever.  and if you ask me it rocks.  I think they should leave it in.  Why shouldnt that have the option to build 2 squads seems more real to me.  And even so flak still take them down easy.  I say leave it, it makes the game more exciting.

Flak is utterly useless in the beta, especially against bombers.

I was thinking that incorporating the flak function into the carrier and getting rid of the -useless- flak ship might be a good idea since carriers are integral to any fleet now or at least till the bug is fixed, and it might force the carriers to leave the edge of the gravity well in major fleet engagements if the devs beef up the flak function.

Its a safe bet that flak will get a boost in 1.1.
