Help needed with graphic options?

How to get the biggest bang for your machine power

I have a pretty decent computer(intel duo, 3,2gb ram, 360 mb video card), but still I get drops of framerates when too many ships are battling each other. How do I get the optimal graphics/performance settings. Are there some tricks to lower some settings that really improve performance but which you don't really see in the graphics quality? Currently I have maxed everything to the highest and have AA at 2x. Is there a big difference (in performance/graphics quality) with AA non-maskable (or even lower)? Should I lower a particular detail category to improve things without significantly hurting the look of the game?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

My first guess would be to try changing the AA or maybe the textures. Also, what patch are you running?

That said, massive battles are extremely system intensive with all of the calculations going on.

Massive battles in the late-game will bring even most "gaming-rigs" to slideshow-like-presentation state.

1. Keep reducing your graphics settings until it doesn't lag (that much) anymore.

-or-

2. Don't zoom-in during large battles in the late-game

-or-

3. Don't play with so many AI players.

Those are pretty much your options.... :) Of course, as Kitkun already suggested....make sure you're up-to-date.

How's life in 1995?

Sorry, but a Q6600 w/ 4870 and 4GB will run perfectly fine with maxed out settings and huge battles.

the_monk, do you ever get tired of getting your @$$ handed to you online? Or is getting verbally raped online a new kind of fetish I'm not aware of?

Denial, anger, then acceptance.

Unfortunately, the_monk might be too ignorant and stupid to even realize what he should be in denial of.

Keep reducing your graphics settings

That is precisely what I asked, which graphic settings should I reduce to get better performance but without the huge reduction in graphic quality? Any suggestions? What do you guys do?

Does it matter for the framerate performance?

Typically, bump, bloom, and AA are the most demanding aspects, so those are the ones you'll want to try reducing first.

Darkcurrent, say what you will about the game but your continued insults against other users will not be tolerated. This is a warning.

1.09 (1.1 Beta) has had people saying that it runs faster with higher graphics levels.
