question about ship model facing, my ships are flying sideways

is there some thing that needs to be done to set the direction of the ship?  null point? im pretty sure the X,Y,Z ' s are all correct; i compared them to sins stock models.  but no matter what change i make it doesn't translate, always the same.

any help is appreciated and it will help get the FreeSpace mod rolling.  i know it seems like a silly problem but i cant for the life of me get them to face the proper direction.

BTW: i do get a 'function not supported by exp' error when exporting to .xsi(still get the file though and it converts to mesh).  i have followed the guide from ironclad(thankyou for that) but i did not include a -da and -nm texture files as i havn;t done them yet.  would they help with this issue? i dont think so but i am new the this stuff.

thanks.

figured i would give a bump and add a pic of the model in xsi. the coordinates look right to me but it still flys sideways and on its side.

I'm posting this here for EVERYONE'S reference, midnightjoker.

A ship should be centered on the origin in XSI. Your model isn't.

Axes: Y is the vertical axis. It determines up/down of the model. To fix it rotate the ship so the top of the ship faces the direction of the y-axis arrow.

Z axis if forward orientation. Rotate model so the arrow on the z-axis point towards the nose of the ship.

X-axis should be taken care of with those two aligned.

Credits for this explanation go to DANMAN3712. He explained it all to me.

thanks for the response.

how can you tell its not centered? my p001-Center null point is at 0,0,0 and at the center of the model.

thats funny, yours are the 3rd set of directions i have read to use, with Y being the up/down. i will try it but really my problem seems to be that i change the mdoel facing, but it comes through the same. change it again, still comes through the same(same direction). yes im freezing the model before export.

if it was just a matter of getting the right direction i would have figured it out by now cause i have tried every direction. something else is causing it to stay in the one direction(i think).

i will keep struggling. thanks.

Is there a direction/facing lock of some kind enabled? No offense, but I really suggest you PM DANMAN about this. He should be able to help you better than me. I know ZERO about modeling.
