Did Impulse properly upgrade my Sins?

I bought Sins just a couple of weeks ago, installed it and launched Impulse to get the newest patches (1.05).

Interestingly, I just noticed on the main "start" screen, there's a version number in the lower right corner. This version number reads "v1.00".

Is this correct? Did something go wrong with the patching, or does that version number just not update? Impulse now tells me that all my software is up to date.

I have the same problem when installing the 1.1 update, it sucks.  But for the 1.05, all you need to do is google the update and just download it from there (Sins of a Solar Empire update 1.05 in your browser) that's how I did it.

Anyone know WHY Impulse will not install updates even though it says it has?

This is strange. I know that Impulse shows you the current available version, not your actual version. There was a recent issue where it wouldn't update the patch download status, even though it was downloading it, but I'm not sure if it's fixed or not.

In any case, you can always uninstall the game and install through Impulse (unless bandwidth is an issue) and it will always give you the latest version with no need to patch. You can do this for v1.09beta too, just check "show pre-release versions" in the blue orb menu.

Otherwise for 1.05, like StormReavan said, it is available as a standalone file on other sites.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found the patch on an alternative site and downloaded/installed it. The version number now reports correctly.

It's a little problematic/troubling though that Impulse got confused.

Hi, I just recently registred my copy of Sins of Solar Empire. I noticed that mine is 1.05 out of the box. When I clicked update I was forwared to a webpage to register my serial. After activating it I was taken to the update page which shows 'Sins 1.05 Bonuspack Setup'. Is this identical to the 1.05 version I have or is this an extention to 1.05?Also I notice Impluse gets mentioned alot...even in my manual. Do I need Impluse to get updates or play on IronClad Online?

Does it show 1.05 in the game's main menu (lower right) when you launch it? Straight out of the box should be 1.0.

In any case, the Sins 1.05 Bonuspack setup is the actual patch file, so if yours already shows as 1.05 in the main menu then you don't need to download it.

Impulse will be needed to get updates going forward (patch 1.1 and on), but will not be needed to play the game. It's strictly a distribution/management program. It will eventually get functionality for multiplayer matchmaking, and I believe Sins will take advantage of it in some way, but I imagine it will never be concretely required to play Sins.

Hope this helps ;)

I had exactly the same problem as TheKat and i also got over it the same way!

Im just a little worried now that when the next patch comes out (only on impulse) it won't update and patch properly again. It was a fresh install straight from CD then updated with impulse straight after install had finished.

O well will see what happens and may post again after the patch :-)

Well, if a problem is discovered the Impulse devs will fix it. I have Sins 1.05 tied to Impulse now, I'll try patching it to 1.09 tonight to see if mine goofs up or not - this is the second thread about it, so it is possible that something with Impulse is funky.

This has been fixed internally and should be live later today.

Ah, I see. Yes, it shows 1.05 at the bottom. So I guess I need Impluse to get future updates.

Thanks.
