Free Tech Mod?

I'm new to Sins, but have a little experience doing very simple mods to racing simulators. I was wondering if there's a simple way to modify the game so that I don't have to research anything...like the "Free Tech" option in Star Trek: Armada. I realize this may cause problems for online play, but, I'm only interested in offline play.

You can't start with everything researched, but you can change each tech to cost nothing and take a second to research. It's easy, but because there are a lot of techs it will take a while. Just open each and every RESEARCHSUBJECT_xxxxx.entity file, and change the costs and research time

I'm having trouble with the text format. Some things are legible, but I also get weird things, like Y's with umlauts, and Euro symbols. I've tried a few different fonts, without result.

I think that's the binary format files.  You need to download the Sins 1.05 Forge Tools and use the reference data there.

Yep, you can get them by clicking the Downloads button on top of the page.

Thanks.

 

One last question. Do I copy and paste the reference data to the normal files, or just change the reference data itself?

The mod pack also has a beginner guide to modding (SINS_modset.pdf) in the Documentation folder, in case you're curious

Or you can use the developer mode and there is an option that will give you all research. The only thing is, it will also give the AI all of its research.
