Andrew, thanks for investigating. Hmm I sit corrected on the ordinals. But hey I'm Dutch and as far as coding goes, I never use anything but 0.9 so everyone know it's not finished. Ever

Andrew all I can add is that my Striker-Extreme-to-Reserator 1+ (self-built; feel free to ask DXDIAG) system has no major probs (played EQ2; AoC; CoX etc. on it) but functions nominally. My 'worst' problem atm is indeed the non-functionality of Extentions under FF (had to get Cute FTP). They worked fine before FF 3.01 and of course I *did* get the IE-Tab & Fire-FTP latest updates. The extensions *show* in FF (not under Tools *directly* but under Tools/Add-Ons only; where you cannot access them only update/deinstall) but do not function (no Menu item). Maybe the Flash problem is related? The version is there, but the Browser does not recognize/initiate it?

I do not recall having changed any 'allow this or that content' settings in FF...but may have thought I 'enabled' something (mixed content stuff) while in fact I restricted something (else)?

If you think installing Exploder 7.x would be useful, holler I'll give it a go (but do not otherwise use it so would only do to help you fix this isssue).

Hmm I have disabled the Win Firewall on XP Pro (first thing I do with any MS 'product' is disable all it lets me ) and only have Zonealarm running.

The only change in this regard I have made in (semi-)recent times is I have the AVG (8) Security Center running. However I just disabled it - no diff on avatar upload (it's giving the same error message in another FF tab right now).

I'm hoping you guys are still up for some more testing. Apparently, Yahoo uses a variation on the same component that we are using. And by extension, Flickr uses this as well.

If you guys are up for it (and I hope you are) please go to http://flickr.com, sign up for a new account (if you dont have one already) and go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/upload/. Please let me know if that works for you or not.

Well guys there isnt much I can do if you're not willing to try that out for me. (there is something about your browsers on your computers that is the problem, and I would need you to test with the same browser on the same computer that you cannot upload avatars on)

They dont install anything on your computer, so I'm not sure what you're worried about. Afterall, you can just stop using the account when you're done testing the upload. Use a silly picture that you dont care about, use my avatar. Anyhow, I looked for another demo of the yahoo component and didnt find one. Let me know if you guys change your mind in the future. Until then, I'm afraid there's nothing more I can do.

sorry andrew, that's just not accurate. it seems that you are asking us to comprimise our security settings in order to be a part of the site. isn't this bass ackwards??? my way or the highway mentallity??? we don't care we don't have to kind of thing??? just thinking out loud

Andrew I understand it might be a bit frustrating to see neo & me not trying out your Flickr suggestion but we ('I' from now on; I cannot speak for others) do indeed have our reasons. For one, there is a Flickr account (Pro I think) that you cannot even delete. I publicize (commercially) my views on such things and will never concede to what I see as extreme (I can handle Google, for now, but it is in some respects a tad dodgy too) infringements on privacy rights and such. However that topic does not belong here so I am leaving it at that.

wimpy's: 'sorry andrew, that's just not accurate.' - It seems to me he is failing to say *why* your 'it's a browser problem' conclusion is not accurate. He may have a point but I do not see it explained and I would think A's reaction is therefore legitimate.

Andrew all I can still say is: ever since - not sure what I started uploading with; Atari ST probably - ZX81 based Timex 1000 (yes I am that old ) I have modem'd around (20mbit at home atm) and while some software was not to my liking I never had a problem with uploading anything anywhere ever. I realize 1) this does not mean I cannot have it now but also you should perhaps realize that 2) while the demo's you suggested failed on FF they succeeded on Exploder. Hence, would it not be reasonable to allow for the possibility the issue is related to a way browsers work, rather than restricting it to 1 specific browser (obviously, FF is problematic here - perhaps if you find out why it does not show me my Extensions you will be on a related/helpful track?). Because even on Exploder I cannot upload to the Images section here...

Up to you to figure out; feel free to PM me if there is another way to help because as of now I will put my own pro-Sins energy in completing, then posting an 'bugs & problematic issues' list if I can (yes too late for 1.1).

On the whole, I do not much care about avatars (but bugs bug me) - in my personal view, it is Stardock's problem, not mine

May still peek at this thread to see if I can be of some small use.

Truth be told: I would respectfully suggest that in general (KIS(S)) principle) - and defo for or something as basic as uploading a picture - the most simple system should be used that requires the absolute minimal amount of updates and/or extensions. There may be reasons to take a different approach but they should then be evident to your average user perhaps...like some added feature people asked for. Even in that case I would make *that* feature optional so problems *can* be avoided. This thread is already 3 pages and Stardock can at some point use Andrew's time on the clock in better ways I would guess (problems need solving at some point).

On the ordinals: if even Adobe uses .124 to .28 I *should* have realized that my own notion (indeed, .028, I completely agree and always have adhered to that standard) to do it the *right* way is often superceded by someone else's notions to do it the easy (read: lazy) way 8-). I noted though that Adobe uses '0's' in other software.

To the point: maybe a simplification of the upload procedure is the best answer until the thing gets sorted. Unless of course neo & myself are the only ones having the problem, but then we all know that this is exceedingly unlikely. One might want to get to a solution that works for all; not because the problem is all that important but because others will have the same complaints in the future.
