Fleet strange behavior (bug?)

I don’t know if anyone else as reported this issue, so here it goes.

In every fleet that I create one of the ships in the fleet his always trying to jump to another planet, you can see that because that ship is always going away from the fleet actual position and going to the planet “borders”. If I select that ship I can see the “blue line” going to another planet.

This is annoying for several reasons, this ship doesn’t engage in combat unless ordered to do so, and when the target is destroyed, it goes away and tries to jump to another planet again (if the ship is a Capital ship … you can imagine…).

When I am trying to place the fleet to be ready to jump to one specific planet, this ship is always going away from the fleet as soon as the move order is finished, and delays the jump when I actually order it.

The ship never actually jumps to another planet by it self, but it’s always moving away from the fleet.

It seams to me that this behavior affects the last ship to join the fleet.

I have also noticed that if I order the ship to jump to the planet that she wants to, two things can happen, if there is another fleet in that planet she joins that fleet, if there is no fleet in that planet she leaves the original fleet.

Are you using the 1.095 beta patch?

Are you sure this ship didn't have some sort of auto mode activated before it was added to the fleet?  I think I saw this behavior at least once or twice but, it's been awhile.  I can't say I recall for sure how I solved it, but I think in one instance I destroyed the offending ship and rebuilt the fleet thinking it was a bug.

I am using v1.05

the ship's have auto join activated, this even happens in a new ship, that leaves the factory and joins the fleet that is in that planet.

Is there a way of forcing the primary (leader) ship in a fleet ?

Yes, the fleet leader will be the primary selection (thick white selection border). You can use tab to cycle through all your selected ships until you get the one you want.

I have been doing some tests, and this is for sure a bug.

This is how it happens:

If you set a Rally Point for a factory, when a ship leaves the factory it goes to that point, if you have a fleet in the planet the ship joins the fleet in the way to the rally point but still goes to the point defined, and stays there until another ship leaves the factory, at this point she moves to the fleet position.

But if for some reason you move your fleet to another planet, that ship never get’s to the  rally point and immediately moves to the fleet position to make the jump, and after this she is always trying to return to the rally point.

I have observed this, in a fleet that is in a remote planet with the behaviour that I stated, I remove it from the fleet, and you can see that she is “auto returning to position”, the ship goes all the way back to the rally point defined in the factory, and when she get’s there it return’s all the way back and joins the fleet again.

Okay, hold on.. So let's say you have planets A, B, C all in a line. Your factory is on A, your fleet is on B, and your rally point is on C. You're saying that when you build a ship (at A), it will join the fleet on the way to C, get to C, and then turn around and goes back to the fleet?

If so, yes this is a bug - ships are not supposed to join fleets unless they stop at the grav well with the fleet. They are not supposed to join fleets if they're only passing by.

But if for some reason you move your fleet to another planet, that ship never get’s to the  rally point and immediately moves to the fleet position to make the jump, and after this she is always trying to return to the rally point.

And this definitely doesn't sound right.

Do you have a save of this? Have you tried in 1.095?

What I am saying is, your fleet, factory and rally point are on A.
A ship leaves the factory, and without letting her get to the rally point, move your fleet to B the ship goes with the fleet, as the fleet arrives to B that ship is always trying to go back to A but never goes because she is in the fleet. If you remove that ship from the fleet she will jump to A goes to the rally point and them jumps back to B.

No I didn’t save, but this is always happening , I am using 1.05.
I haven’t tried 1.095, were can I get it? in Impulse it doesn’t show up

Ahha, I get it now, thanks :) So it looks like if you put a waypoint in space, the ship always wants to get to it.

That might be why reports of this are so spotty. I always place my factory waypoints on objects (usually the fleet leader) and never in space, which would explain why I've never seen this.

I think you're the first person (at least that I can remember) to actually get this far! I'll see if I can attract some dev attention to this thread after I try to duplicate it in 1.095 now that I know how it's supposed to happen.

Thanks for explaining and narrowing it down :)

You need to click the blue orb in the top left and check "Show pre-release versions" :)

Yeah, 1.095 still has this bug. Thanks again for finally figuring out what triggers it, people have been complaining about the "1 ship always wants to jump back" thing for ages!
