I was wondering, how do I go about choosing which race to play for each map? Or is it random? Or, am I looking right at the solution and not seeing it?
When you are in the menu directly after choosing which type of map you want that shows all the players participating in the match you will notice a tab that says "random." Click that tab and it will show TEC, click again it shows Advent and once more to show Vasari. Of the list of players you are the top so just click the top "random" tab, you can also do this with the other AI's. So in a sense yes, you were looking right at the solution. 
Hey don't worry about asking questions, I've had to ask plenty of questions that I felt were dumb. If you have a question just ask it, the people on this forum have done a good job of answering my questions without making me feel like an idiot so I wouldn't expect anything less from them for you. We just want to get your questions answered so you can get to playing this awesome game!

I've never seen you come out with a dumb answer yet, and never expect to.
The dumb answers are the ones that attack the question or the poster, and dont actually answer it. Or take the opportunity to rant without addressing the question. Or thread highjack.
THREAD HIJACK IS MY FAVORITE! You can get some really funny stuff going on from that. Only time that is good is when the question has pretty much been answered though.

Correction, "'em", which is shorthand for "them", in reference to the "derailers" that Jetheren was looking for - of which you are indeed part of
