I've lot's of Impulse and Steam games, and also 12 years of PC games. I often download games, and when i (or my children) like them i buy them, the last examples were Mass Effect and Spore.

For all games I download no-cd cracks when possible, i don't like the cd hassle.

I'm not sure what my reaction will be when i hit the activation limit on installs. Maybe I will start pirating the other games from companies that rent games for full prize. But i first will wait how long it takes. And of course keep a no activation crack at hand...

What I like about steam and Impulse is the ease of getting a new computer up and running. Now if they starting to use the internet for their savegames.... Luckely i have a very good and stable ADSL.

Personally, I'd rather download a demo.  Doesn't take so frickin' long.

i personlay can't download games becase i live in the middle of texas so no cable and stalite i have no idea when. so i have to go to SA and get them more of a hasale but at least when my computer crshers i don't have to go buy it agan unless its a steam product.

I've used DLing as a demo system when demos are not available for games. 

In the past, I've also installed pirated games for the express purpose of LAN parties where the group will be playing a game that I would normally never buy/play. I'm not trying to justify it, just saying that's what I've done.

On the flip side, I've purchased many more games then I've ever downloaded.  At the time of this writing, I can't think of anything that I actually have installed that I havn't paid for. 

Now, what I HAVE done is remove the CD check from everything.  My normal install routine is: install, patch (if available), crack. I have actually not played games I've paid for because it's too much of a hassle to dig out the CD. Consider that in the context that all my CDs are in a binder beside me on the desk.

Well, I grew up in Europe in a place where bootlegged stuff was (and still is) pretty wide spread (looking at you, Romania!), so I'd be lying if I said I never pirated a game.

That said, with digital distribution on the rise it's often faster, easier, and more reliable to just buy it from Impulse, Steam, D2D, Gamersgate, whatever than it is to pirate. I haven't pirated a game to play in a long long time. Having a job makes this especially easy, too. At least, one that allows you to live comfortably without worrying about saving pennies.

AOE2, someone swore it was my kind of game, the demo was ungodly bad.  I downloaded it, played a bit, bought it, the first one, and the expansions.

Homeworld, I actually got cataclysm first and was curious about the differences, the fucker was one hard to find game in Squarebanks Alaska, but I've bought them all.  Patience is a virtue I lack, I do however have the vices of complacency and procrastination, so I get to skip the need to accomplish tasks.

Lets see, some old dos games I no longer have the disks to, MOM, MOO, Wolfenstein, although all of these are public domain anyway.

In the fuck you I'm not buying this shit category, Age of Wonder:Shadow Magic.  Ok people, this game might be tolerable in it's own right, but it is to Master of Magic what my asshole is to a source of fuel.  Worse in every aspect but graphics, no thanks.

Yeah, that's really it, I'm not a very good serial copyright infringer.  In fairness to reality, it is kinda hard to steal shit on the bandwidth limited satellite connection I have now.   I've also bought a lot of my games indirectly as a result of piracy, including Stardock games, and not because they're anti-drm.  I know two prolific pirates that steal everything before buying, and tend to buy rather infrequently.  I'd guess half of all games I've bought have been recommended by selective people that pirated them.  The rest are either sequels, recommendations from selective people that didn't pirate, or games with damn good demo's.  Reviews get about as much attention from me as paint dried on a wall.

I have never downloaded a game. I have purchased pirated copies of various games in Thailand and Indonesia in the past, and the ones I have liked, I have gone on to purchase legitimate copies. Playing a pirated copy just isn't the same IMHO. It's not just the guilt factor, but actually owning the box and manual just feels so much more satisfying. Even with legitimate downloaded games it feels as if you have the real thing, whereas a pirated version could have missing movies or files, etc, and the developers get no benefit. Not that long ago the closest I came to downloading a game was to download a crack to unlock the trial version of a demo, and it put a virus on my computer! Not going to do it again, If you play a demo where available and spend time researching the game, you can generally make a wise purchase.

I've never DLed a game. I buy them all (after doing some research on them and checking with friends that have them to see if they're something I may like). So far I've been lucky in that I've not actually bought a title I actively hate. There are a few that were just so-so, but none that I actually felt were a waste of money. Another 'advantage' (if you will) that I have is I don't feel the need to have something hot off the shelf, so I'm willing to wait and see how things shake out with a game if I'm unsure of it.

Those must be very bad games.
