Feature Request - UI Addition to Fleet Naming

Not sure how many others are frustrated by it, but I frequently forget good names I've come up with for capital ships in the past.  The UI change I was thinking about would store frequently used ship/planet names or just allow you to input ones you want to use almost every game into a list in perhaps the player setup phase.

Then, after opening the name change dialog box in-game, you could simply click on the name in a popup list to change the current one.  Does a piece of paper solve memory issues?  Sure, but you still have to deal with clicking on each capital ship and renaming them by hand.  So I figure this kills two birds with one stone.

Thoughts?

I like the idea.

It could store all the user created names in a file somewhere. Each time you name a ship, if it's a new unique name it gets added. When you click to rename, you can use up/down arrows to select names from this list. A popup will be trickier because if the list of names grows large enough (and on smaller game resolutions) it'll run out of room, and there's no scrolling functionality built into the UI windows in Sins.

It could be as simple as just dumping all of them unorganized, or it could be organized by race or even ship type (so if you're renaming a Kol it would only show you names you've given to Kols in the past, etc).

The file could probably be dumped in the Setting folder where achievements and keymapping go.

This would be an amazing feature.  I think this also ties into another addition I think would add a touch of flavor to the game.  In regards to single player I think we should be able to edit the list of names that planets get named by default such as on the options screen (pirates locked/locked teams/fleet size option screen).  If I have to colonize Komm one more time i'm gonna vomit!  PLanet and cap ship name changes with some basic ability to store them would add some flavor at a minimum of cost.

I third this!

Yeah, the specific method of implementation is less important to me, but I am glad to see some others supporting this idea.

Would'nt there be a file somewhere with ship/planet names?

If you could edit this, that would be the solution.

There is and you can, but it's used to randomly assign names when ships are created, you can't select names from it in-game.
