Improved graphics for Sins of a Solar Empire

SolarFlair is a graphical modification for Sins of a Solar Empire. It has been released for months, but I've been way too busy with classes to spend time making promotional videos or advertising.

 

I'd like to invite you all to give it a shot, though. Here's what it offers:

* Beautiful new graphics for every weapon in the game, and several totally new animations for other special effects, like explosions and hyperspace warps

 

* Fully multiplayer compatible. There is no need for other players to have a copy of the mod for it to work. Just put it on your computer, and it will work.

 

* No slowdown. The graphics are actually a little less demanding than SoaSE's default effects, even though they look better!

 

* Compatible with most other mods. Because of the way SolarFlair is installed, it will play nice with other mods, no special handling required.

 

I just don't have time to make a promo video of the final version, but I'd like to encourage you to try it out and see what you think. There are screenshots from the final version, a video of an earlier work-in-progress version (the final release looks much better!), and one fan put up a YouTube of the mod in action that you can check out.

NOTE: For some users, the way SoaSE is installed does not include the "TotalGaming" directory mentioned in the installation instructions. If that applies to you, don't worry, it still works fine, you just need to find where your game is installed, follow these directions:
Try doing a search for your "Sins of a Solar Empire" folder. (In Windows XP, for example, click start, then search, then "all files or folders", then type in "Sins of a Solar Empire" and click search.) This should show you where your copy of the game is installed. It's probably somewhere in Program Files.
Once you have found that folder, you can install SolarFlair by copying the "Sins of the Solar Empire" folder that came in the install directory of the mod into the same place as the "Sins of a Solar Empire" folder you just found by searching. If you're putting it in the right place, windows will ask if you want to overwrite the existing files. You should click "yes to all" then.

I just want to say, I *like* this graphical mod.

I like it because it's actually unique and different.  So many graphical mods here just make things bigger and flashier.  From the youtube vid, it looks like you actually put in some thought as to what a certain weapon would look like, and tried to design the weapon effect accordingly in a way that was unique from the original.

Love the varying weapon speeds.

Actually, all SolarFlair is is a unch of particle files.  All you do is drag and drop into your Sins Particle Folder and you are set.  Can even play multiplayer with people who don't have it!

Yes, it should work with any version of the game.
