Mass Effect Mod.

Would it be Fun? Interesting? POSSIBLE?

I was reading over some of the other mods when someone mentioned Mass Effect, and I started wondering.

We have the varying races: Human, Krogan, Turian, Salarians, Elcor, Quarians, Asari, Geth, and even maybe the Reapers.

The humans, Turians, Geth, and reapers all have their ships, yes...but what about the others? We could have the races be Human, Turian, and Geth with the Reapers being the Pirates.

There are, of course, numerous other things to take into consideration, but I think it would be quite interesting to have. Any thoughts on this? Any modders already working on such a project?

Loved th game n th idea of controling huge mass effect gun ships miles long is always good, but i think th Reapers wud be wasted as pirates. I mean y have th most powerfull race th only 1 u can't play?? But still wud love to play this mod!!

Well, I say the reapers should be pirates for 2 reasons:

1. They are the enemy to everyone, much like the pirates.

2. To leave such an immensely powerful race in the hands of a player...well...that would make it too easy, now wouldn't it? ;P

Why would the Reapers attack the Geth as they are their allies?

And why would paying off the Reapers work?

Spoiler alert: sovereign found the geth insulting.  Anyway... the idea is nice, but I can't see there being enough material as far as ship designs to really make a fleet of different ship types with.

The whole point of the Reapers is to kill ALL ORGANIC LIFE!  Reaper pirates?  HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?  It makes less sense than Johnny Cochrane's Chewbacca Defense.

And Barn0, the biggest ship in ME is Sovereign.  At 2 km.  That's about 1 and a quarter miles long.

So then the Pirates raids would be increased dramatically, and the whole bounty system would be done away with. Instead, if possible, they would target the civilization that is the most advanced in research (Which makes sense, if you've played the game).

That DOES make sense but I'm wondering how you could do that. I'll dig through the files.

I heard that was being bandied around in the SoA 2 thread.  Excpet instead of Reapers doing it, it was the Borg being the pirates.  And unfortunately, I think pirate raiders going for bounty is hardcoded.

Yeah, I think you're right. What a shame.

They thought of the Borg, but realized that modeling and texturing the ships would be nearly impossible.

Now then, if it is true that the bounty system is hardcoded, then I say make the pirates be mercenaries (The guys you tend to get into fights with in the original game) and then make the Reapers a plyable race...though I'm not sure how that would work, as we only know how one Reaper looks...and they would all be the same....and be rediculously overpowered. Though we could counter that last one with high resource prices per-ship.

No just make them the Geth/Reapers.  The Synthetic Alliance!  Na I'm kidding.  Basically, make the Reapers part of the Geth and have Sovereign be hugely expensive in terms of research, build cost, build time, and supply.  And make him a capital too.
