Modern doesn't make for good RTS.
End of Kyrein's quote

Sure it does!

Empires: Dawn of the modern world is a game wher you can advance up to World War II and Command & Conquor: Generals and Command & Conquor: Generals Zero Hour Expansion takes place in 2020. also I think Command & Conquor Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Red Alert Expansion and Redalert 2 Expansion take place in modern times. I think Command & Conquor, Command & Conquor 2 and command & Conquor 3 take place in modern times as well. Also Red Alert 3 comes out soon.:D

Have fun!

I agree with theleif. World in Conflict is really one of the best stratagy games I've ever played. I think it's actualy based on a novel by Tom Clancy, called Red Storm Rising. Another good game is Rise of Nations.

Thirding World in Conflict, it's a great game. If you're into console gaming, the upcoming Tom Clancy's EndWar is looking promising. Similar style of play.

Company of Heroes is a WW2-era RTS and also very good, if you're not looking strictly for current-day modern.

World in Conflict is pretty awesome, although my computer didn't handle the graphic requirements too well. (Psst, sinofficer, it isn't based off of Red Storm Rising, but if you haven't red that book, it's badass).

Another good one is Company of Heroes. It is more squad based (made by the makers of Dawn of War, another awesome but not quite "modern" game).

You can download a demo (I think) for both of those, so give it a shot! I love them both and they both play VERY differently. World in Conflict is more tactical meaning it focuses almost exclusively on unit placement, counters and abilities while Company of Heroes also mixes in build orders and strategic points.

Hope that helps!

yes, ive heard of most of these games but none look to promising for what i want, i want land, air, and sea games, most of these are just land & air games.  and i do like the way that endwar is coming but all there is in it is helecopeter, no planes.   but ill check them out

Speaking of endwar, I did download the demo, and there are TECHNICALLY planes...airstrikes! I was pretty impressed with it, although I have a feeling the game might get stale with it's low unit count.

There aren't many games that effectively blend all three of those. Actually, I can't really think of ANY. Maybe Red Alert? And by Red Alert I'm talking about the first one, for DOS (although you can download it for FREE at the Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 website for windows and vista!).

Not much lower than WiC, really, and we didn't see all of them in the demo. I think the persistent MP is going to be what carries the game, and the main reason I'm grabbing it.

I don't think there's a "serious" modern RTS with land, sea, and air. SupCom has them, but it's not modern. Red Alert 3 is coming out, but it's not serious.

World in Conflict does have amphibious transports and there are some water maps where they're useful, but that's about it.

supcom is a pretty good game that balances all three parts of war. i have it but i just want a good modern day rts with like fighters and bombers and such

I you want an air, land AND sea rts game try Empires: Dawn of the modern world. I goes up to World War II and allows you to build fighters, bombers, zepplins, tanks, ambulences, soldiers, mortar guys, engineers, army rangers, nuclear bombers, artillery, ships, aircraft carriers, submarines, and missles in the 10,000's! Now where is my V-2?*_*

War in the modern world is not fought with huge pitched battles like the average RTS.

It is fought in small skirmishes between a squad or three, large invasions that take over a town in an hour or less, or planes with rather large bombs wiping out entire military bases.

Trench warfare no longer exists, and that was the main thing about RTS with guns.

Most of the listed RTS are either not set in the present day or in WW2/future. The others are inaccurate representations of modern war.

Red Alert is science-fiction - not an example of modern day warfare.

If you made an RTS that was a true representation of modern war, there would have to be a MASSIVE amount of ducking and hiding or fights would be over in ten seconds. Then a plane comes along and bombs the area to hell anyway.

Ah, i forgot: Combat Mission: Shock Force

It's all about modern combat. And quite good with the latest patch (1.10).
