... Not Just Battles...

(Or it would be really cool, to do "Other" things besides just blow stuff up) :)

I was just thinking how nice it would be to do other things as well as battle, like Space exploration, without all the major fleets, maybe we could have fleet and solo mode? fleet of course is when you are a race and you have your world and all your ships, in solo mode you only have one ship. Perhaps this would be a good time and place to have some different kinds of ships, not a lot, certainly not as many as a fleet, but a few would be nice, a miner perhaps. A mid-range cargo-cruiser with light guns, a long-range cargo-cruiser with heavy guns, a racer with no guns but with twice the speed of anything else out there :)  All of course built for doing "Other" things. Perhaps we can go to the Casino's on Garlon Prime and play the slots and see if we can win anything. :)  Perhaps we spend two weeks in a miners dim-lit cramped cabin staring at little green extraction and refining lights blinking in the starlight coming through the porthole?  :)  Perhaps we transport ore for an ore company (ours or someone elses) either short range for a fee, or long range for a fee. And like fleets of pirates attack our fleet ships, we could have one or two or three ships, pirates or rogues attack us when we are on vacation, or mining or transporting goods, or not attack us as the case maybe. Hmmm.... I know it is alot to ask with everything else we are asking for, but still, it would be neat.  :)

dont quite get your point but im rather tired at the moment. what exactly are you asking? to watch other things? because as far as space exploration goes there are scouts. but ya, if i understand corectly your talking about either a cut scene type of deal or something? (personaly i wouldnt mind watching/placing the structured on your planets but that probabely wouldnt work with the engine.)  same thing goes for if you meant controling a ship in first person or whatnot.

think you'd need different came mechanics hardcoded into the game, or scripted events, and we're unable to do both at the moment.  maybe if one off the microexpansions includes an actual campaign, it'll come with some scenario tools.  it might be fun to have a last fleet standing scenario where you have a small fleet with a couple cap ships and your goal is to befriend the pirate race and use your combined forces against some new threat in the galaxy.

I really like the idea of a 'inside' view...watching the battle through the eyes of the captain in the command room!!!

Just wanted to see if something different, you know, like Empire Earth was possible, i mean, they build and then they battle. I thought perhaps if we had three quarters already, with diplomacy and economics, we might be able to get the other quarter.  :)  Thats all.  :)  Anyway, maybe and maybe not. Devs just want a good game, i suppose so do the gamers, and they are doing wonderfully already, so its not like they need more. The game is already a hit and great fun. Anyway, take care.

:)  Haha..... if you click on a ship and then focus close up and let the game run, it is sorta like being in the cockpit of a ship.  :)  at least is seems that way to me.  Try it, it is cool.  :)

Too bad the ships are static in battle!

I have fun looking through a fighters point of vue cus then you see the entire battle and that is breathtaking!

Yes, movement would be nice, and i think that really is the next step. Stardock and IronClad have done extremely well with this title and as the sales increase i think they will only have the chance to bring more to the game to increase the audience. :) 

Also as a side note, the ship turret movements, the doors and sub-system launches of fighters or craft or carriers, were well done in HW2. I really think that is the level to shoot for. I know i sound terrible, but i dont mean too. I like Solar Empire alot, alot alot.  :)

We wouldn't be on this forum if we didn't love this game soo much to devote all our free time (or at least chunks of 6 hours at a time) to it ;)!
