Who would miss these mines? You probably can see them from the next planet. Please fix before release. o_O

I dunno how anyone could think about something else than mines.

Extractors are Extractors, mines are mines. Wth.

Anyway, it would be better if mines were small and in "clouds", not few big balls. Instead of making one ovesized mine, I would suggest putting in a little cluster of five (or so) much smaller mines. Those small clusters would blow together with exactly the same effect, would be considered one object but would give it a more realistic feel to minefields, which would look like huge deadly clouds. Something like fighters - they are not one frigate-sized fighter per carrier flying around, but an undividable group. Yes, fighters have separate HP counts, but we don't really need that for mines.
Also, it would make more sense that a cap ship crew can not see the minefield if it consists of 100 tiny objects instead of 20 big red balls with warning signs on them.

Agreed the model for the mine should be a cloud of lots or little mines floating in space

err...

the enemy cant see your mines as far as i know

you need scout ships to make them visable

so does size matter?

It should matter. Every idiot should be able to see a big red ball hanging around in front of you.

Frigate 1 - Hey, what's that?
Frigate 2 - What?
F1 - That big red ball over there.
F2 - What ball?
F1 - That freakin' red ball right in front of you, bigger than both of our friggin' ships!
F2 - What?  You haxxor! You see a mine! We have no scout firgate around, you aren't supposed to see it!
F1 - But but... it's so big and...
F2 - shut it, cheater!
F1 - ok ok... hmphf...

There would be a nice way to make this irrelevant - give the mines a cloaking device. They will still be large, but faded away, invisible.

I also wonder what Vasari mines would be like.
How their hi-tech phasing mastery gets reflected in them.

At least I know I'm not crazy.......yes in game you need scout's to "see" the mines, but if their as large as that they can be "seen" with the human eye, you would'nt need to scan space.

well, just a thought here, but what if say, a phased out particle was hot thru an anti-grav field, creating an explosion.... hey, just a thought!

anyway, the Vasari would probably be like rounded diamonds or spiked spheres.  as for phase tech, it could actually be phased out (Jikarta Navigator's phasic cloaking ability turned on by default w/ no antimatter cost, then phases in to activate the mine when a magnetic/gravitic sensor detects a ship nearby).

oh, and I think large clouds as a single unit would be a great idea.  and magnetic attractors so that the mines moved toward something if it got close enough.
