Wierd graphical glitch

This happened twice, after about three hours of gameplay. I didnt do anything in particular, it just suddenly went like this. I thought I accidentally hit CTRL SHIFT Z or something but i noticed I still saw the text.

Any idea how it happens? Looks like a long game and it's just not displaying the background graphics, makes me think something's funky in memory. Dunno.

Nope. It just happened. The first time I hit some wierd key comination on accident trying to do ALT+SHIFT click on a Kostura to add it to my fleet of the others, and then it did this. The second time it happened I didnt even do anything. It just went poof.
