game slows in lan

im having an unusual problem, when me and my friend play lan together, his computer runs really slowly, at first i thought it was just because it was a laptop he was playing on and that its just slow, but then today i dissconnected from the game, instantly and to me and his suprise, his game sped up dramatically, is there something i can do to make the game speed up while we lan?

some more info, my laptop has vista on it and my computer (xp) is the host

It happens to most everyone on here.  Its the game that slows down as it continues to chew processes because the map is big and the amount of pixels - enemy fleet, planets, logistical and tactical buildings - keeps growing the longer you play.  I think SD is working on it but i am not sure.

thanks for the reply, however, the thing is that once we are not longer connected for lan, the speed of the computer increases by a very noticable amount, but while connected, the speed is very very slow for the vista laptop.

 

how much does the size of the map affect gameplay speed compaired to fleet size?
