How long does this game last?

Hello

I'm new to the game have been playing it for about 1 week, my ? is how long does a typical game last vs the AI say vs 4 alians.

Seems like this game can tie you up for a long time, at least thats been my experiance, just wondering in case I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks

It depends. The large maps can take a long time, but the smaller ones don't take nearly as long. For me, I only play huge maps, so the games typically last many hours. Save is your friend! I would say that you are doing nothing wrong.

Online game with humans is normally between 1-4 hours.

But they drop out and know to surrender when they have lost.

Single player can be much longer as you have to grind it out.

In online multiplayer (the "real" Sins game) a 3v3 on the large random single star map normally takes between one-and-a-half or two hours.  Games are normally decided in less than an hour-and-a-half but it sometimes takes a while for players on the losing team to figure it out and surrender or quit.  Occassionally someone will insist on playing it out until they've lost all of their ships and their last planet (the two hour games).

I have the game for about 3 weeks.

I have played about 30 super-short games, trying to figure out a good starting build order that would both work well and fit my liking (I'm a Vasari Playa and I h8 beginning with the Space Egg. I just hate having this round oversized unhatched chicken as my flagship. Period. I'm dumb, but I wanted to skip it ;p. I <3 Antorak though ;]).

Once I found the way I wanna go I launched a Random Huge map with 9 AIs. That was 2 weeks ago...

... and I'm still playing that very game. I have it saved 15 times in various moments, it is in its 18th hour right now and still far from definite victory.

So yeah, a Sins game can take a while.

PS. I wasn't turtling.

I usually play 3v3 with about 20 - 40 planets which can take from 1/2 hour upto around 3 hours. Theoretically it can keep going back and forth for a while but eventually one team will break through and usually the other team will quit. Sometimes a player will want to fight to the bitter end which can add upto another hour.

A good thing to try and do though on multiplayer is create a fleet which can devestate an enemies favourite caps ship or planet to break their morale, a lot of players will just quit when they see their favourite caps ship being blown up or vital planet being seiged even though they may of had a good chance of coming back.

Hi all,

Avan: I am not sure how big or long your scenario was/is but I have once (and once only; at the start of my Sins 'career') come to the point where the whole game came to a grinding halt (that is to say, took me 2 hours for each new planet etc.) in the 'endgame'. I had hundreds of thousands of credits I could not really use (this I hope will change with expansions & mods) and not yet figured out the many horrible things you can do to your enemies to expedite things (although I *was* nuking from afar).

Once you get a good notion of how various elements work, you should be able to progress in most any part of the game, although the endgame lacks some 'extreme measures' atm in my view. I would just start another scenario if you are bogged down...

I started by doing all the prefab scenario's in order, one or two on easy then moderate and now on hard. A fun thing to do is set yourself some 'achievement goals' for each new scenario you try.You will soon realize they are basically 'handicaps' while you play...which means you force yourself to try out many different tactics 8-).

And you can find oodles of interesting tidbits of info (strategy-wise) on these boards if you consult them with some regularity. Or, alternatively, if you manage (unlike me so far) to discover where the mods hid them all :p.

Keep in mind the manual does what all manuals do: give you a vague notion of the basics; a few things to get started and keep in mind maybe...and then abruptly end just when you got interested ;)

Best of luck,

Lucas aka Sinful
