Just got SOASE

And so my journey begins...But how should I go about it?

Hi all

Just got the game, played the demo a few months back and resolved that I definitely want to spend several hours on this game.

I decided against buying it, but my lovely wife decided to give it to me as an anniversary present (1st...aww!)

I've installed the game and am about to start playing, but my question is about Mods.

Which mods (if any) would you recommend for me to install, before delving into this epic game? I've installed bailknights graphics mod, which looks awesome, but would you recommend me any others?

What are the best mods - there's just so many to choose from ?!

Many thanks!

Congrats on your anniversary. As for the best mods, I would recommend DANMAN's 7 Deadly Sins mod. It has better effects, new planets, and a lot of new races. Unfortunetly, the current release is a little buggy, but the next release should be soon.

Why not play it vanilla first if it is your first time playing. I haven't used any mods at all so far and I still have found it very enjoyable, single player isnt so good but the multiplayer was great. I've stopped playing it at the moment though as the current multiplayer patch has balance issues, although it doesnt ruin the game but just takes away a bit of the fun when you start getting into the more advanced strategies. Still i'd suggest playing it vanilla first and then by the time you start getting into the more advanced strategies they latest patch would be out by then.

BTW im not talking about mods which make minor tweaks for aesthetic reasons eg user interface mods as I believe they are still compatible online so you can still join all the vanilla games which are hosted over ICO.

I'm more of a purist, so the only mods I've used were BailKnight's and Lost Wld's graphics mods, and I find them to be more than enough.

So I would also recommend playing without the "turn the game upside down" mods at least in the beginning, and then try them out if you're looking for something more.
