Entrenchment download

I couldn't really figure out which forum I should put this in so here goes. I'm currently serving in Iraq and play Sins in my freetime. With entrenchment, I don't have anywhere to plug my laptop into to download entrenchment, I only have access to the internet via computers at work. Does sins need to be installed on the computer you're downloading it onto? Or can I download entrenchment from a different computer and transfer it to another computer? Or get a hard copy? Any help would be appreciated.

guessing this should work like any other impulse download...

1. install impulse on you internet computer (this may be the big hurdle if you can't get permission)

2. download entrechment

3. right click the icon and select "archive". this will save all the needed gumph into one *.impulse file

4. copy the *.impulse file to your playing machine

5. click the stardock icon in the top left of impulse, select restore archive, select the *.impulse file

6. wait...

you can do this for all your apps and it's a smart thing to do as it save re-downloading everything.

hope that doesn't steer you too far wrong.

Mrlarone's steps are correct, but step 5), restoring the archive, does require Impulse to be connected to the internet unfortunately - which would be a problem for you if you can't get your laptop online even for a few minutes :(

I suspect he can't just copy a 1GB+ filesystem from a work computer onto a personal computer, or copy it to a removable hard drive.

If you can, just copy the directory with sins and get it onto your play computer, and make a shortcut to the executable.  You wouldn't have to archive it.  Pretty sure that will work, I have done it before when I wanted a copy of 1.05 and a copy of 1.09 at the same time.

Yeah actually that should work as well. You won't have the registry keys so if you ever get the laptop online Impulse won't recognize the installation, but you should be able to play it.

Thanks for the help. Now I can get an external hooked up at work, so that won't be a biggie, the only problem would be impulse. Could I run impulse off my external?

You can run it off the external as long as you direct it to install itself there, I'm pretty sure.  But it is going to make the registry entries on the on the host computer's hard drive.  As long as you are careful to tell impulse to install itself and the Sins program files on the external, it should do it.  Then, when you get it home, just copy the Sins game directory to your local hard drive.  (You could play it off the external, but it will load slower than on the internal hard drive, unless you have something like a really fast firewire connection.)  When you get back in the good ol' US of A you will have to reinstall Impulse and the game, because it won't have the registry entries on your computer.

Someone correct me if this doesn't sound right, but I think it will work!
