performance increase with 1.1?

Since I started playing 1.1 i've noticed that the chugging frame rate while zoomed in to close battles has lessend quite a bit.  I played a large and heavy twin empire scenario and it ran substantially faster and smoother even with very large fleet battles.  Its a dramatic improvement.  What did you guys do and does anyone else see an improvement in single player performance?

I've noticed a huge improvement in the graphics engine-- things look nicer and it seems like my set up is now perfectly able to handle the almost-too-high settings I had.  Overall, I'm very happy with this patch.

lets put it this way...

from medium-high settings i went up to all max with better frame rate, gfx, effects and overall performance...

this is on MacBook Pro with 4Gb of Ram Duo 2.4Ghz and 8600GT 256Mb

arguably the best patch in history of gaming :)
