I just got Sins and am working my way through the tutorial. I've done Basic Gameplay but am stuck on Basic Logistics. When my frigate constructors complete the Gause defensive platform nothing happens. Is that it for Basic Logistics?
Also, is there a pause button anywhere? I don't see it on the interface or in the manual.

I'm having the exact same problem. Maybe this is related to the 1.1 update since I only bought the game today, too?
Err, well, I know for sure there is no pause button Hydro. However, I don't remember enough about the tutorial to know if that's it or not. If you keep having problems just skip that one and do the advanced one's, just keep the manual ready in case you're not sure how to do something. Also, if you want some practice, you can play single player with no CPU's, and if you keep pirates on you can also get some decent development and defensive experience.
Can't help you with the tutorial right now but will look at it. As for pausing the game in single player all you have to do is hit the pause/break key on the keyboard.

Eek don't know how I missed this topic. Didn't mean to post about it already.
I'm having the same problem and just bought the game yesterday. As for doing the other missions, I don't remember if interface does the same thing, but advanced logistics does the same thing basic logistics. Can't make it through the tutorials.
