Fighter entity questions

  • Can fighter entities have abilities?
  • What is the maximum number of squadron (fighter) types a carrier can build? Is it hard-coded as 2?
  • Can fighter/bomber flight behavior be changed in any way (i.e. escort fighters)?

No abilities.

 

Two squadron types max.

 

I haven't tried it, but I would assume that since fighters have AntiLight Damage, and bombers have Light armor, fighters attack bombers first.  If you gave a fighter AntiVeryLight guns, I think it would autoattack fighters due to the fact fighters have VeryLight armor.

:S   on points 1 and 2.  I was hoping to create some additional fighter entities, including two that would act as bombs/missiles.  One with a Weapon Jam-like ability the other with Phase Disruption that would destroy the squadron at after it's payload is delivered.

I guess I'll have to do those as abilities that spawns some sort of frigate so it can have abilities.

The two squadron type limit really sux though because more fighter entity types would require more carrier types.

I can think of loads of uses for new fighter types:

  • ECM/ECCM fighters (targeting buffs)
  • Hull repair bots
  • Shield boost bots
  • Interceptors (disable engines/phase disrupt)
  • Anti-matter draining fighters

.....

I would pay good money for a Sins 2 game/expansion that had some of these limits removed and some better GUI-type modding tools.  The limits imposed by the UI seem like they wouldn't be so hard to overcome. Anyway...

Trust me.  Sins UI stuff is harder to deal with than TNG Borg.  Just ask Major Stress about modding the Sins UI and cover your ears for his response.

Indeed.  The mod I'm working on is an Eve mod.  Best scifi MMO ever.

I'm a seasoned .NET programmer but the 3D modeling hurts my brain...

Ah, too bad about only 2 fighter classes.

I was hoping for the ability to have 4 types! I had heard rumors that it was possible, but if its not, I guess 2 types will have to do for now.

4 types would be plenty.  I wonder how hard that is for Ironclad to implement?

I can accomplish it with abilities that spawn frigates of course, but that then limits giving other abilities to the ship.

An increase in the number of abilities per entity might also help with this.

Light, Medium, Heavy, and Sentry drones, Progress? That's what I was referring to. ^^

I was hoping for more than that even.

  • Light
  • Medium
  • Heavy
  • Sentry (spawned frigate i think)
  • ECM (targeting penalty to target) and ECCM (targeting buff to host)
  • Target painters (targeting boost to all in AOE)
  • Shield Boost drones
  • Hull Repair drones
  • Mining drones (spawned by hangar-like structure or mining cruisers and boost extraction)

I had also hoped to make Bombs out of a fighter-like entity.  One per squadron, when in range massive damage, dies after damage is done.

Without fighter being able to have abilities, however, this will be more difficult, but still possible with spawned frigates.
