Extra Game Modes - Ideas!

Hi all, 

Before reading this post please keep in mind one thing - this is NOT a thread with suggestion how to "redesign" the game but about ideas on how to expand it with number of different game modes - suitable for off line play and most importantly for online MP play...

Perhaps thread like this already exist, perhaps stuff suggested here has already been posted by someone else - i don't know - however if this is the case please accept my apologies...

Everyone is welcome to throw in their own ideas too!

To start this topic I will post my ideas for 3 game modes which I am sure would add to overall fun of the game as well as drastically boost up MP aspect and therefore number of players at ICO...

Following ideas will be presented in basic, short form, so most probably you will need to use your imagination a bit to picture it in fully working and balanced form... 

 

1. CAPTURE THE ARTEFACT 

- based on good old "capture the flag" mode

- 1 star system + 20 planets 

- up to 4v4

- introduction of adjustable timer for setting the games length (from 30 to 60 minutes)

- 1 new type of ship - Artefact Carrier - moves at 1/3 of a speed of capital ship (yes very slow!)

- artefact placement: near the sun (middle of the map)

- objective: first team that brings the artefact back to docking bay at home-world wins the round (docking bay is new too!)

- winning conditions: as per above or if time runs out team that's got artefact nearer their home-world wins the round...

 

2. ESCORT

- based on Escort game modes and mission types

- 1 star system + 20 planets + 2 wormholes

- up to 4v4

- introduction of adjustable timer for setting the games length (from 30 to 60 minutes)

- 1 new type of ship - Artefact Carrier - moves at 1/3 of a speed of capital ship (yes very slow!)

- wormhole placements: one near team A home world and one near team B home world

- objective: escort Artefact Carrier to the wormhole (one near your opposing team! - ofc...)

- winning conditions: as per above or if time runs out team that's got their Artefact Carrier nearer to their destination wins...

 

3. DEATH MATCH

- based on classic death match mode

- 1 star system + 20 planets

- up to 4v4

- introduction of adjustable timer for setting the games length (from 30 to 60 minutes)

- limited resources! or in other words you cant leach forever as you can now...

- objective: kill as much as you can and loose as little as possible - simple as that...

- winning conditions: elimination of opposing team or if time runs out team with more value kills wins...

 

As I said at the start of this post - these are just basic ideas but will hopefully illustrate well enough what I have in mind... 

Please post your opinions and indeed your ideas for extra game modes! It can be anything at all but ideally something that would fit well online and that wouldn't last for hours but minutes instead :)

not bad. I have two myself. though I'm not quite sure. starcraft had a lot of game modes, but have any of them really been played that much? isn't that just a fairly fringe aspect?

 

King of the Hill

get points for holding a certain key strategic point, maybe like the sun. the more units you have there, the more points you get. once you have enough points, you win. of course cutting off the supply line before an attack on the central point is just as valid a strategy as a frontal assault.

 

Bounty hunt:

basically inspired from the original homeworld. you get a fixed amount of resources, a large amount, but standard resource generation is very low or non existant. the primary way to get resources is to kill enemy ships, maybe even some type of raiding could be used. so a totally combat oriented mode.
