1) It's StabILIZER , not stabalizer. It's stabilizes, not stabs anything.
2) Phase stabilizers allow your fleet to jump between gravity wells with a Stabilizer present.
Suppose the shortest way from planet A to B is:
A ------ Pirate Base ------- Some Plazma Storm -------- Some planet -------- B
Normally going from A to B takes days - you have to go around the pirate base, through plasma storm, wait until your ships fly around the last planet and then jump to B. Moreover, making four jumps eats away 400 antimatter on all ships, meaning all your carriers and support cruisers will most likely enter B grav well without any Antimatter.
Having Phase Stabilizers built in A and B lets you do a straight jump:
A ---------------------------------------------------------------- B
It takes a lot less time, because ships don't waste eons or maneuvering through grav wells.
It also saves Antimatter on them, because they make one jump, not 4+ .
Also, with the next research after Stabilizers, your ships travel faster between Stabilized grav wells.
A -------------------------------- B
So, suddenly every reach of your empire is one jump away for any of your ships. This is a HELL of an advantage, because Advent or TEC need to share their forces to make two fast attack on two fronts. You do not, you can repel one attack and the second front, a zillion phase jumps away for *them*, is just next door for *you*.
Phase Stabilizers are good as they are, without RA -> Returning Armada .
3) RA was nerfed in 1.1 , because it now gives a few ships after paying for activation. It used to summon more and more ships every 6 minutes at no cost for you - meaning you would never have to build anything, just swarm the enemy until he dies.
4) Still, RA is very useful.
It does NOT require you to research the prototypes of the ships you summon.
It is INSTANT.
Although the incoming ships are random, in an average calculation you actually profit on activating the Armada, because the incoming ships cost:
- a lot more credits than the activation cost (usually ~4000 vs 2500 for activation),
- a lot more Metal than you paid (RA costs 200; that's 3 assailants, but you get a lot more).
You only don't profit on Crystal (500 is usually about 100 more Crystal than the ships cost together)
So, all in all, RA was imba before 1.1, but right now it is still useful in late game - it allows you to pump a lot of units instantly into the battle for ~60% price. Couple that with the Phase Stabilizers and you get a:
- big armada
- instantly
- at half price
- that you can locate at any of your planets in the system in about 2 minutes.
