Easy Allies

I’m having great fun exploring the game and have worked my way through five games on Easy (random medium, 4 AIs). I find it strange that so far I’ve always ended up with an ally. All I have to do is attack a neighbor (which I’ll do anyway) and another of the AI factions is generally delighted. Getting one AI to be neutral or friendly is a great help.

 

But, is this normal? I generally don’t have to work at it at all. Getting a friend/ally just happens. Or perhaps it is an artifact of my setup?

AIs issue you missions that involve attacking other AI players if it doesn't involve giving resources. Usually, if you keep on pressing against one AI player, another will begin to like you for completing the missions it gives you, regardless if you intended to do them or not.

What's funny is that looking at recordings, I've noticed that the missions the AI gives me involve attacking another AI that they have formed a peace treaty with. In effect, they were using me to move their secret agenda forward.
