NEED NEW SHIP/ABILITY IDEAS!

OK..so I got most of my ships down (3 to go and Ill be able to start the modding part of the mod) and lie you all know (or most of you) I focused primarily on support ships (protectors, command centers, artillery,etc...)!

Now I'd like ideas for other vessels either be for combat, scouting, new type of salvaging and what not to code some new vessels and new abilities!!

Ever wanted to see if a certain ability was possible...then throw down the description of what you want it to do down here and I'll do my best to make it for you and then send it to you once its done!

Really anything that crosses your mind and that you would love to see implemented in Sins! :D

What about a giant barge ship that produces credits/metal/crystal out of antimatter?

 

Oh man, I could send you a list of 100 ships! hahaha

A frigate that spreads culture

Cloaking ship!!

Interdictor that both slows ship movement and increase ship jump time

A battleship that increases damage by 5/10/15%, rate of fire by 5/10/15% (two passive abilities)

A mother ship that produces frigates for resources: 4 frigates

A capital ship destroyer (like  a siege frigate but uses a giant laser ability to deal  800 Dmg ... looong cooldown, gotta hit then run!) The big laser is at the back so once it fires it can run away easier.

 

Seriously I could give so many ideas for you to try out.

Ok heres one that i have been thinking about for a while. a ship that portals trade/refinery routes basically you can build them at refinery/trade port  and they operate like a trade/refinery ship only they have high hull and attack values which enable them to the Defend the space ways

Homeworld 2 made a switch to modular parts on mother and capital ships.  set up a cloaking ability for your capitals.

see if you can create a mine ship before entrenchment comes out.  you just need a model for the mine component.

combine ship ability.  I haven't seen this since Homeworld Cataclysm, but it would allow your frigate fleet to adjust depending on the threat or need.  you can have frigates that are capable of forming into different ships, and eventually once you've gotten a sizable frigate line put together and the resources, maybe have frigates of different tyypes form specialized or multipurpose cruisers.  of course these combined ships can undock from each other as well.  forming a capital ship in this way might be stretching things though.

WTB orbitals, planet/frig factory in one (vasari)

WTB comand ships that lets you set up prio on targets by giving a bunus vs 1 type of ship/armor at the time (tec)

WTB Dreamcasters, a decoy ship that projeks the apperance of a fleet around it ( advent)

 

WTB supplyship, lot's and lot's of antimatter to transfer to friendlies but no guns and blows up and kills your fleet if you dont protect it. (all)

WTB reshearch ship, reduces cost of reshearch by 10% for each jump away from neareast owned planet/astroid(all)

WTB Composite ships, costs 6 supply but can tranform into any ship with a lower supply cost(all)

WTB decoys, build at tradestation / refineries, takes out 85%(AOE effect) of a Hv cruiser if attacked(all)

WTB Harequins,Hv cruiser with the abillity to take on the shape(and team colour) of an enemy(all) nothing beeter than getting others to go to war ^^

 

Last by not least WTB the great Pie ship, as pie > cake

i reckon you should just redo the kodiak completely, i think most will agree that it looks awful! a heavy cruiser should look powerful and sophisticated whereas the kodiak looks like a feckin brick.

Havent seen all the latest MINE threads out there...both Helioforge and myself now have, 2 very different, but fully fonctionnal mines! I use a minelayer to drop them manually behind your fleeing fleet to hinder enemy following you, Helioforge has generator that creates a swarm of them inside a grav well!

1) Possible in my opinion but then you would have to give the ship a very slow or plainly no antimatter regen so that it doesnt abuse of abilit. Or make an ability that gives it a certain amount of antimatter whenbever a ship is destroyed which you can then trade (3 different abilities) for either  medium amount of crystal, crap load of metal, Huge pile of credits!

2) Frigate that spreads culture is not really my thing so if you'll excuse me, Ill pass on that one

3) I can make permanently cloaked vessels, only issue is like everyone noticed that the effect doesnt make the ship transparent! It is just CMOPLETELY IMMUNE TO EVERYTHING but still visible.

4) Doesnt Sins already have that kind of ship?? As Vasari or Advent utility?

5) My command center!!

6) Already in on my mobile factory ships!! (yes it does produce 4 different types of frigates ;) )

7) My sniper cap ship! Possess a one-hit kill attack that has a 60% chance of success of instantly killing any ship! In a large battle, he can get thrown out in a pinch, so he has cloaking and speed boost to do sort of hit and run attacks! Plus his attack is interuptable and has a fairly long charge up :)

Yeah, for cloaking we'd have to give it a particle effect that is invisible. So basically do what phase cloaking does but make the particle effect completely invisible.

 

What about an ability that shuts down shields for say 20 seconds. Once the ability is over the shields go back to where they were before.

 

An ability that turns off engines only?

 

Is it possible to make a shield ship? Basically it just creates a giant shield around a fleet.

 

What about mines that don't blow up but do other things. Slow movement, send out ecm pulses, This way you could have ships that drop these mines in battle and they do different things but can be blown up.

 

Do they have vamp ships in Sins? Steal shields and give it to another ship?

 

Would it be possible to create a space whale? LOL it's basically a giant space creature that randomly jumpes between planets and eats buildings and ships as it goes. It would be neutral character that doesn't hang around in any particular place for very long. ie. eats a building or couple ships then moves on.

The shield ship is my next idea!!! Lucky we both got same..only I refered it as Turtle Ship :)

As to it being able to shield an entire fleet I dont know..mine is more the little dude you send first that soaks up massive damage with over 90% mitigation and fleet comes in behind with strikecraft to take out all the oppressors! Dont know about shield around fleet!!!

Could be possible, say take planet shield ability and give it a range instead of planet entity as target!!! Might work!! Very good idea though ;)

Variable mines are simple now..just add tot he main mine code, the buff you want it to do (ie. explosion = missile barrage variant: disable jump drives to slow down,etc...variations are lmited to our imagination)! As for vamp ships....you cant really "steal", but like my salvager, you would effectively suck his shields Ie. 20 shields per sec ability for 20 sec (400 shields lost total) which triggers at the same time a buff which gives exactly the same amount for exactly the same time (you get 400 shields)! AND VOILA!!! VAMPIRES FTW!

As for Space Whale.....I seriously don't know but looled at that ;)

First, you should probably make a template for our ideas.  But seeing as you didn't, I will make my own.  This is a scout that can go with any race.

 

Name: Volcar C. Scout

Race: Any

Ship Type: Frigate

General model shape: Heavy armor on the front and near the engines, making for a bulky appearance.  There is a fishhead-like nose for the front, with a mostly sleek body frame until the engines(excluding an autocannon or two coming out the sides).  There are 6 engines in a 2x3 manner embedded into the back.

Stats: Very low shields and hull.  Able to cloak itself for a short period of time with moderate antimatter cost(for a scout).  Best against bomber strikecraft.  Weak to all of the faster cruisers and fighter strikecraft.  Very fast, slightly faster than the normal scout.  Probably the best scout to go straight through a pirate base(or some other heavily-occupied territory).

Abilities: Explore, Cloak, and whatever that one ability is called that boosts engine speed.

General cost: Slightly higher than the normal scout's cost.  Perhaps 200C, 50M and 20-30C?

 

Name: Frui I

Race: TEC

Ship Type: Capital (Factory/Support)

General model shape: A large capital ship in the general shape of a carrier with extremely large docking bays on both sides the size of a large cruiser.  It has guns similar to the carrier's guns, except slightly weaker.

Stats: Extremely high shields and hull, though relatively zero guns.  Essentially a mobile Frigate Factory, for the cost of very little antimatter and a little extra resources, the Frui I can build any frigate or cruiser you have researched in a shortened building time as would be normal.

Abilities: Build Frigate(select Frigate to build, pay the cost, then wait around 15 seconds for the frigate to build), Build Cruiser(select Cruiser to build, pay the cost, then wait around 30 second for the cruiser to build), Homemade(gives all ships built by the Frui I extra attack damage as well as hull strength, target ship[s] must be in local gravity well for effect) - Passive.

Very nice and detailed ship stats my dear man!

I didnt implement any terms of cleansiness in my OP 'cus the idea just struck my head and I was about to go crash down (hard day at work today :( )! But now that Its week-end (my term for week ;) )! Now let's be civilised!:D

Its quite costly!!! but its damage on impact is UNFORGIVING!! so the trick would be to use them in concert with a turtle ship to wreck complete havoc on enemy forces ;)!!!

Why thank you.  If you need any more ship ideas, I'm sure I could come up with more, and once I get some modelling knowledge in, I might be able to model the Volcar C. Scout.  The Frui I though... Mmm that'll be harder.

 

If you do use the Volcar, what race do you want it to be?  It can go as any race really, though I think it might fit best as TEC or Advent(the weapons can be changed of course, and the main body style as well).

 

I bet the Liberation would be nice with a good fleet of Flaks and Kodiaks to keep it a little company.  Vampire ships look kind of a nice idea, and perhaps you could even have an ability with them that, instead of sapping shields, gives shields to any friendly target(to prevent mis-clicking on enemies.  That would be embarrasing!).

*As for vampire ship that gives shields to friendly ships...Thats, in my memory serves me right, DEAD SIMPLE TO DO! So I'll give it a peek after my exams are done ;) (monday next week but I'll feel a lot better wednesday night of this week)!!

A Ship with Catapultability. Like the Guardian but not for enemy ships. All ships i range will pushed in a chose direction.

A Ability that allow friendly ships to jump out of the system from everywhere they are inside the gravitywell.

A Ability for a carriertyp ship that allow a kamikaze mission for the bombers/fighters.

1) Already done on my protector ship

2) Reminds me of an ability already in game that gives you a jump range bonus of +8%..all youll need to do is change that +8% into +50% for example..so youre ships can jump from half range.

3) Already an idea of mine which unfortunately, I didnt get too yet :(

I have no protests on how the Kodiak looks, personally.  It could do with a touchup here and there, to add some extra flair, but otherwise it's fine as is.  A ship is a ship.  If it looks like the ship it should, then consider it done.

In the spirit of the OP:

How about a ship that launches pink space ponies at the target, which splatter across the hull of the ships as the crews of that ship and those nearby look in horror upon such sweet and innocent creatures being slaughtered.

While they are horrified, ships operate at a reduced efficiency, so no regeneration, weapons barely fire, and the ship has a small chance to self-destruct due to the sheer incompetence of the engineering team while mourning the loss of the pony.

Now the pony thing is a joke, but I figured you'd like to experiment with abilities that have only a chance of doing something ;) You can easily come up with some electronic-warfare ship idea out of the silliness that won't be quite as, well, silly.

I like that idea...A LOT!! Could call the ability Annatar11s Influence (read Virtual Madness in-game)! Could be really fun to make and even funnier to watch in-game :grin: ! Very good idea!

PS: I'm starting to think I'll have to make a resume in OP about everything I need to keep track off and code ;)
