Planet Underdevelopment

Newbie here!  Been playing about a week -- I win some, I lose some, but always when I check the stats at the end of the game, I'm waaayyy higher in the "income lost to planet underdevelopment" category.  But the thing is, i think i AM developing my planets.  I forget what the button says, but it's the one in the top left (right below it is the logistics slot improvement button); I usually max that one out within ten minutes of colonizing the planet.  And I max out the planet density tech...

What am I missing?  Refineries maybe?  I often don't get around to refineries until way late in the game.

Thanks for thinking!

nope, you're doing it right, as far as I know, the 'income lost to underdevelopment' designates the time you have red, negative income from a freshly colonised planet. the first pop upgrade should really be ordered as soon as the planet is colonised, because otherwise you have a big drag on your econ. bigger planets also require a second one to get you completely out of the red numbers, so that's a priority too then. the rest is up to you and your requirements.

so ... if you let seveal minutes pass between colonisation and the first upgrade, then maybe that's the problem. the only thing I can think of right now.

10min to max is way to long, it should happen inside 1 min max, 10min = 600sec with red numbers.

You'll always have some credits lost to underdevelopment, but it should remain rather low if you immediately upgrade your civilian infrastructure enough to bring it to positives (which is what you should be doing anyway).

As has already been said, the reason is infact that 10 minutes is too long for comleting the developement upgrades. But personally, I would say if the situation you do this in justifies it, such as needing logistical slots in a hurry, or linking the planet to a trade route, or it is a valuable strategic asset, or a lot of other things that could be the case (and are all reasons we all love sins) then go ahead and do what you are doing and don't worry about the lost income too much. However, you want to think twice if your only reason for colonization is gaining resoure roids, because more than likely if you leave off upgrading for even a few minutes, the credits lost will be of more value than the overall gain in resources during that time.
