Carrier Noob Questions!

1)Is commanding a carrier unit to attack a target the same thing as selecting individually the fighter or bomber units to attack the target? Sometimes I feel that having a carrier attack something just makes it move closer to that target, but I could be wrong.

2)Is there any way to group select all fighter units of that carrier and/or all fighter units in the gravity well?

3)I *might* have seen this question somewhere else, but I can't seem to find it now with the search (which seems to fail more often than it actually works, what gives with that!?) - Is there any way to direct fighter/bomber units to 'protect' a specific unit in the gravity well?

Thanks for any help or suggestions or comments that I didn't look at the manual hard enough *cough* :)  Appreciate it!

Generally, from what I've seen, when your ships jump into a grav well, the carriers sit back on the edges a good bit of the time, while the fighters/bombers do the dirty work, so the short answer to #1 is "no."

You can select all fighters or bombers in a grav well by holding the alt key, then clicking on any squadron.

As far as what I can remember, there is no, "guard command" for any unit in the game, though it would be useful if there were!

1/ afaik you need to have the stikecraft selected to tell them what to attack.

2/ the allmighty Alt button-- press alt and clik a type of ship and you select all of that type in the grav well

3/ not to my understanding, but you can move them prior to the battle to off atleast some initial protection.
