How busy are you?

So I bought this game about a week ago and haven't done a d___ thing but play it since.  But I'm starting to think that I'm letting it stress me out too much.  The thing is, sometimes it seems like the best strategy is waiting.  I've taken to leaving the game running while I get up, do the dishes, pour a drink... come back and I'm just about where I want to be.  It would be sad if I got attacked during that time, but so far I've been lucky.  The thing is that sometimes I get too frenetic -- wanting to research this, build that, scout here, colonize there... almost all of which costs resources that I would be better off saving until I can afford... a new capital ship, or the upfront costs of colonizing a new planet or whatever.

Do you find yourself less busy in this game than in other RTS games like Star/Warcraft?

I turn all the settings to fastest. The pace is still a tad slow but it's about where I like it. Try it out. (under game options)

I find myself exceptionaly busy playing this game.  As an rts veteran this game is a little slower pace then what I am used to but I hardly ever sit idle as there is always something to micro.  This game seems to hurt you if you move to fast but if you don't move fast enough you will be behind the tech curve.

I just push the "+" key until my game is running at x8 speed and leave it there, in about 10 minutes i'm done playing.

Try online - it is a whole new world... And you CAN'T walk away 99% of the time for more then 2 minutes, and even then you are risking it :D

MP moves quicker, but also finishes quicker then SP as you can give/receive resources etc... and work with allies...

There is always something to do in the game, even if it is checking your stats to make sure you don't have negative income, or that you still own your neutral extracotors etc... while something moves/builds etc...

In SP, playing med maps in 2v2, there seem to be some dead moments towards the late game. It's usually when both sides are camping, the AI is unwilling to attack and I'm waiting for resources/credits to trickle in in order to get the next research item, the next capital or whatever fleet I need to build for the next offensive.
