GalCiv Trainers?

I know there is many trainers out there for the old version, but they do not work with the updated version, is there anyway I can get a trainer for the new version? I know people will say. "but people will cheat and submit it to the metaverse"... which may be true, but there is already trainers out there now, so not like its a biggie, i dont submit to the metaverse ever (cheating or non-cheating game) so I dont care anything about the metaverse (those of you who do more power to ya) just wanna play for fun...

Anyways back to the point, any links to trainers that work with the NEW version?

I'm not sure what you mean by "trainers", but if you set the alien intellegence as low as it can go, galaxy size around medium, planets to common, and set tutorial mode on, and just play the game, it will provide a good training ground.

I've heard the term "trainer" used quite a bit on these forums and would like to know what they are, myself.

Basically it's a program that runs in the background that allows you to cheat in ways that aren't built into the program. They can do things such as eliminate the fog of war, give you virtually unlimited money, etc.

The great thing about this game is that you can still have fun at the lower levels without cheating and be able to dominate everything, if you so desire. So trainers seem to be silly for this game, as they are for Civ games and whatnot.

TJL1 (et al),
I could take either side of this issue, but at the moment I would argue in favor of a "trainer". You're recommendation is certainly correct, but I submit that the simple "dumbing" of the opposition is not the answer to the question. The use of a "trainer" is viable in situations where a player has found themselves in a difficult situation (quite certainly from their own ineptitude and/or inexperience) and need to be "bailed out" by the use of some "influence" in order to continue the game - from my view - to learn how to outwit the problem in future games. For example, throw some money at the situation... well 20 turns later, the hole still exists - perhaps money alone is not the issue; heh better, throw some hot dog ships into the fray... 20 turns later, they're all wiped out and the problem still exists. Study the problem and hopefully something will be revealed - and - the player is still up against a "smart" level where new opportunities will continue.

Certainly there are some who would seek to use the "influence" as an advantage to gain fame (but probably not much fortune) as opposed to learning. Generally that is a shallow and short-lived visit by those of that ilk; I don't think the Metaverse will suffer.

All these replys and no answer, please dont hijack the topic, i know what a trainer is and what its used for... its a cheat program... i dont care what you think of it, how you think is should or should not be used.. start a new thread if you want to talk about that... I have a trainer now that works for the newly installed version, gives you unlimited money, unlimited movement rate, and 1 turn completed research and unlimited ability point spendage... but its only for the un-updated version.. (which is why im looking for a trainer that works for the new version)

If you dont know what a trainer is, or dont like to use them, or dont think people should use them, please dont waste my time and yours on posting here.. if you have a link to a site that has one that works let me know and you will recieve my thanks...

Dont Hijack my thread plz

I hate to say this mayhem, but this isn't the place to even be asking for trainers in the first place. Last time I checked, the use of those trainers is against the EULA because the people creating the trainers created "a derivative work" or "reversed engineered" the game to create the trainers. If you feel you must use the trainers...go to gamecopyworld.com. Otherwise pray to god Frogboy doesn't see this post and attempts to get a takedown notice put on that site or others of its ilk.

Didnt know that about the EULA, but if he wants to stop the trainers etc from being around, all i did was search for it in Yahoo, and there is many listed there available to download, so he is free to stop whatever programs are out there... Just search yahoo for Galactic Civilzations Trainers and you will see a crapload of sites.... so there ya , since its against the EULA i wont ask anymore and any mods feel free to delete this thread..

Want a trainer? Use the one included in GalCiv itself by setting the AI level to Fool. They won't even be able to harm you.

Alternativly, get a text editor to modify the files in the GalCiv\data directory. Set the AI to Pure Evil, and give the Good event options a ridiculous bonus.

Want to instantly conquer planets with minimal effort? Use the second trainer to add a new invasion option "Insta-Capture", costing 1 BC, and giving +2000% Attack advantage, but prevent the AI from using them by destroying 1% of planetary facilities.

Remember the obsene Battle Hammers in 1.02? For some reason, the AI abhors them. Use the trainer to restore them to their previous glory of being obscenely powerful.

And the invulnerability trainer: Save/Load.

All these are examples of trainers that are perfectly legal, and that make it easier for players to "learn" the game.

Don't bother with the other kinds of trainers that modify the EXE - GalCiv is updated more often than MTV, resulting in such patches to be useless.

Attempting to use trainers for GalCiv is more or less pointless. It simply gets updated too often.

There are a few people working on Save Game editors (or at least the base information needed to make one), though, and those would work consistantly until a break in save game compatibility, which I haven't seen an actual example of since beta 3 or so (although the changes have occasionally made old games nearly unplayable simply because of some of the new effects, the saves themselves still worked)...

Hey mayhem, since none of them actually answered your original question, could you send me the site where you downloaded the trainer that works for the original version?
