[Fixed]Entrenchment Modding and Other Stuff

Hi all,

Just a quick note that a bunch of modding requests are being worked but they aren't in Entrenchment beta 1 (which is also the case for some gameplay changes like the trade routes and some other thing I mentionned elsewhere). I hope to have them complete shortly after xmas and we'll make them public asap.

Next, there have been a number of very detailed questions from a variety of people (mostly modders) written to me in private messaging. I am able to read these but not respond. I wrote a public message recently to have people write me but I got zero responses. So if you are one of these people, (like EvilJedi) please c/p the messages and email me at bfraser@ironcladgames.com. I'll get to them all on the weekend.

I think i had a mod installed when i upgraded to the beta... it will not load

already tried removing all the mod directories

The same thing happened to me. I had to remove the entire C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire directory for the game to work.

same thing if any mod is in the file the wont load. hopefully they fix that asap

There's nothing to fix. It's expected behavior whenever there's a patch - mods need to be updated.

Where can I get the updated GameInfo files for entrenchment (in text format not binary)?

Cause the convertData.exe cant convert the entrenchment enities back into text.

 

Otherwise i dont know how to run my mod with the entrenchment beta cause all files

in the forge tools are for sins vanilla.

Use the ConvertData.exe in the Sins install folder not the ForgeTools version.

@ProgressBar I dont think your files converted corretly, have you noticed when you open the file it has 3 odd chars right before the TEXT at the top of the file?  Im pretty sure those are not supposed to be there.

Can anyone confirm this?

Are the three odd characters "TXT" ?

If so then they're suppoed to be there afaik, (they were ont he beta files I converted) or if not, they don't do any harm at least. (I've modded the beta of Entrenchment quite heavily and all the files I modded had the txt at the top of them)

I have some questions for Ironclad regarding the new Squad abilities:

  1. Why can squads only use Area of Effect abilities?  Squads can pick specific targets for attacking, so why not abilities?
  2. Can we get some AI coding to handle squads designed for support and/or defense? I've tried coding repair squadrons in the latest Entrenchment build, with no weapons and small repair abilities, but they always want to go attack something...

No, this is how your convereted files look, and I mean all of them I checked each of the files.

i am not quite sure but the last time I saw such characters  was as

I opened a UTF-8 coded text file with an editor that was unable to to read UTF-8 correct.

 

maybe this is your problem.

I just checked the entities and they are indeed saved as UTF-8

Thats nice only you have to convert them back to binary after your done otherwise it won`t work

Yes, me too DarkShimmer.  They are probably working on it, but we may not see it til next week, is that the official release date on the 25th?  Or just the next step in the beta test?

Although i have to admit, i have never seen a game company as committed to its players as i have seen IronClad, they are great!!!  I'm wishing them well, and us too!!

@Teal:

yes IronClad did a great job, but I doupt that the final release is still the 25th.

With the new manifest system a lot of new problems arised and i think it will take a while to fix this.

But maybe we get another beta patch next week.
