Fighters/Bombers Flying Through Starbases

I was playing as advent

When I was playing a singleplayer game with a couple of hard ai and some normal ai, I was attacking another advent's starbase with 30 bombers and 20 fighter. I was closely looking at the enemies starbase when I realized that they were flying through it! I know ther don't fly through other structure or ships.

This is not much of concern because it does not affect anything but graphicly it is bad.

I think this is something that's always been around in Sins. I've seen them fly through planets, stars, asteroids, ships, buildings everything, fighters just don't seem to be a solid object. As far as I know can't really do anything about either, just a small blemish on a great game.

They fly through resource asteroids all the time, in normal Sins. Suns, too, for that matter! ^_^

What's worse is that every Advent trade ship flys straight through the starbase when it docks. It seriously ruins the ambiance.

Ship pathfinding is one thing I really wish they'd fix, in general.

Watching ships in Homeworld used to be like watching ballet. It was epic. Sins ships, however, bounce off of each other, fly through each other, clump up, and accelerate/decelerate in jumpy little spurts, and I hate to say it, look kind of bad.

One thing that I think could actually be fixed rather easily, with the fighters, is that I really wish they'd deviate from the ecliptic plane, sometimes. They should swoop in and out of a battle, over and under, but mostly they fly along on the plane, clipping with everything, all clumping up into one ship, and making these zero-roll turns. Not to compare red apples to green apples, again, but Homeworld fighters swooped around doing loops, and it was awesome.

Fighters deliberately have no collision detection because it would be too resource intensive. :P Always been that way.

I remember watching an Akkan fly through my starbase yesterday, and I've seen ships larger than fighters fly through each other in the regular Sins... I just never thought anything of it.

It's the price you pay for the scale( and graphical scalability) of Sins.  Homeworld is/was always a much more tactical game.  I'm sure most people wouldn't mind an optional "Super High FX" patch down the road, but the most important thing is getting the gameplay right.

i think they might be able to fix these problems for the next incoming installment of space based RTS called 'HW3' :borg: nufsaid!

Just kinda funny that I never noticed before, I love watching the fighters fly around at full speed never stopping, they were like dancing in and out and between ships that are in battle. They were always in a free flowing melody never fly through anything.

It is kinda of annoying with the orhter ships with their flight pattern accelerating, stopping, accelerating again. Along with bumping into each other and enemy ships.

When I'm hitting a planet with cap ships and seige ships, example with vasari, they just aim the planet and the beam attack of some ships go through some ships that are in front of them and then hit the planet.

those type of special weapons like planet nukes are edited specially for that planet thus going through any type of entity besides the planet. maybe if fighters recognize planets, asteroids and ship units then they maybe able to bypass those units or objects and go around them as if those objects where there?

I have noticed caps flying throught starbases and I assume smaller ships, I never really noticed if smaller ships do it but I saw when a cap does it.

i think ver.1.1 the cap ships actually moved upward instead of around the asteroid. i had a recorded game where my cap ship alternately went up instead of around =D

I generally don't mind fighters flying through ships/structures, because I understand how resource intensive it would be otherwise, but I would really like to see fighters respect planets and suns.  It shouldn't be too resource intensive, since these are large, stationary objects.  Nothing ruins the atmosphere mroe for me than to see 100+ fighters plow through a star.

Ironically, I have noticed that fighters are much better about not flying through starbases.  They normally pull up out of their bombing run well before they hit the surface.  It doesn't always happen, but it occurs significantly more often than with other objects.

@xenoOne:  Yeah, I've noticed ships going up or down around objects a lot more since 1.1.  I even once had a fleet go around a star by forming a giant vertical ring around it.  Looked awesome.

They also fly through stars.   I ment to post this on my own thread of feedback, but I forgot.
