underpowered and minor annoyances

One of the things i find annoying is not being able to "sweep" enemy mines from systems that you own.  I would also have to agree with others who posted that the starbases seem very underpowered considering the supposed size and cost associated with building them.  I have gone in with a couple capitol ships and a few cruisers and taken out whole systems, including their starbases.   I would expect to lose a third to half my fleet on just attacking a fully decked out starbase, not including all the mines, and hanger squads, defense batteries and other warships in system.

Agreed with everything.

Really need a dedicated mine-sweeping ship.

Need to just remove mines altogether, that solves a multitude of issues including massive lag / memory leak and micro managing mine removal in a conquered system...

The comp AI builds so many mines its stupid, as TEC assaulting a hard aggressive Vasari AI, the final mop up of the enemy is taking hours, my last attack w/ a full 16 capital ships - would not display my ships unless i was zoomed almost all the way in -  this was due to 10 billion mines in the system - REMOVE MINES !!!!!

I doubt the'll remove the mines, it was one of the big selling points of the expansion.

Yes, but beta testing is showing that it's crippling performance, among other problems.

Honestly if they asked me, I'd forgive them. Entrenchment is far more playable without mines then with them. They could rework it for a later expansion when they get the performance problems solved.

Effective minesweeping will probably handle most of the problem.  The way I see it, "effective" should mean that a minesweeper should be able to remove mines at least twice as fast as a minelayer can place them.

Well, not the performance problem. So many mines appear in so many systems that the entire game slows down. If you actually go into one of them, I get a slideshow. A minesweeper won't solve that, because it'd still take 45 minutes to clear the field at slideshow speeds, after the other defenses are cleared.

As it stands now, once the Vasari mine spam starts Entrenchment is unplayably slow on my system. Original Sins ran at high settings even on the biggest maps without problems. A minesweeper won't solve that.

There has to be a cap on the amount of mines each player can put, so you can't just drop 1000 mines there, and 1000 mines here and rinse repeat for every system you pass. A number of 40 mines in just one system is still very limiting and takes a while to clean up, whilst having 200 mines in one system makes it unplayable (on my pc).

I do very much like the idea of mines, I just do not like the way they are currently working.

The performance problem can be pinned solely on the Vasari's ability to drop unlimited free mines.  If they cap the mines per planet to a reasonable number we'd be set.  I can't even let the AI play as Vasari as things are right now.... was kinda hoping for a fix soon :(  Or at least give beta testers the ability (temporarily) to disable mines in a game until it is fixed.  It's broken the game and they didn't give us an easy way to revert back to vanila.

In the few games I've played, I've almost never seen an AI vasari mine field.

Consider yourself lucky.

I had a savegame (that I quit) that had well over 30k mines total on various planets from just one faction-I don't know how many the other three surviving factions had laid out.  And that's not even a Vasari-it's an Advent.

[When I exited the game, my system threw a BSOD.]

The blue AI's capital. My fleet is right beside it, just warp on over and say hello to hundreds of mines.
