Allies need fix...

Alright, this is a bit ridiculous.  I started playing a 2v2v2v2... my AI ally and I are doing pretty well as we start things off.  So, I start getting attacked by another force and I ask my ally to attack them... Oh, but he won't attack an ally!  What the??

As we are on the same team, then, essentially, we are the same unit.  If my ally makes a pact with another side, then that side also must make a pact with me.  I mean come on, we are on the same team!  Not sure how this problem would still exist after so many patches...

no, you played with teams unlocked.

that means he can quit his allience with you anytime he wants to.

that means you are not the same unit

that means an AI outplayed you

Yeah, you need to lock teams if you don't want the AIs making other alliances. Setting up a team game with unlocked settings isn't a guarantee they'll stay teamed with you, or that they won't team with anyone else

Lol... ah, ok, well that makes me feel better.  I just didn't realize that's how it worked.

Thanks for pointing that out... maybe I should sleep better before making a post without thinking first

Don't feel too bad.  You do make a good point that the AI shouldn't be brokering alliances with enemies of their initial alliance without some sort of consequence.  I'm guessing the second mini-expansion will flesh out some of these diplomatic weirdness issues more fully.

That is complete and utter crap - name one war where an ally has not been able to be at peace with one of your enemies, but not one of their other ones...

e.g. Falklands War - 1982 - the US had treaties with UK and Argentina.

There are differences between ceasefires and active alliances.  Note which word I used.  Notice I also didn't say it shouldn't be possible, just that there should be pros and cons to what diplomatic measures you enact.
