World of Goo, a fantastic present

So somebody who loves me was like "hey, I'm gonna buy you a $20 casual type game for christmas.  what should it be?" and I responded "I heard world of goo is pretty good, and its on impulse right here"   (sadly the servers were down, I discovered this after the purchase though, so I had to wait a day to play it)

And man, was it an enjoyable experiance.   I don't think I've been so pleased with a game purchase in at least 6 months.  Its one of those endings that don't really have a message or conclusion, but you feel really good finishing it anyway.   Its like Portal... short but the adventure of playing it just makes everything seem awesome.

And what better, purchasing it supports an indipendent developer.  It was made by 3 guys in a basement somewhere.  I'm shocked at the quality.

So anybody who hasn't played it, you should consider doing so.

Anybody else, you should post the high of your tower of goo.

My kids and I love this game.  A great purchase!

World of Goo is awesome. Found it a few days ago, finished it Christmas Eve, and loved every bit of it. Although, for me, the ending was important and really made me think.

Actually, it was made by 2 guys in several coffee shops in San Francisco. (the third guy was only there for a small fraction of the development). http://2dboy.com/about.php

I would've bought it through Impulse or Steam, but that only gets you the PC version, and not all of the money goes to the devs. So I bought it direct from their website, getting both the PC and Mac versions (and the Linux one when its released) for the same $20, 100% of which goes to the devs.

I'd recommend this to anyone, whether you're casual or hardcore. I'd definitely call it the Portal of 2008. Not to mention that there's no DRM at all.

I'd post my WoG corp tower height, but I haven't had much time to work on it. Left 4 Dead, Far Cry 2, Audiosurf, Demigod, SoaSE: Entrenchment, Defense Grid, Suicide Survival, TF2, and my replaying of Crysis have been taking up most of my gaming time :)

that just happened to me.   It I was up in the 10;000s for highest tower (you start at about 50,000 right now) when it buckled and collapsed.

it was above 20 meters, but I don't remeber what.   It was past the 2nd billboard

I want to buy the Linux version of this game. Will it be available on Impulse when it is out?

Impulse won't run in Linux, will it? You can just buy it straight from 2dBoy (the developer) which gives you access to the Windows, Mac, and Linux (once it's released) versions all at once with no DRM of any kind.

All Impulse needs to do is drop the Linux executable next to the Windows executable. I think it can do that.

No.  SD is Windows only (unfortunately).

Great little game. My kids love it too. I bought it when it was first released and still fire it up when I'm bored and have only a few minutes to kill. It's fun to replay sections and see if you can get OCD on it (if you didn't the first time through).

I need to get around to building my tower though...

I played on a friend's computer. Didn't think it was worth $20.

Sorry. >.>

Hey, it's not going to appeal to everyone, so fair enough. I thought it was more than worth the 20 bucks.

Aaaaargggh, this game is awesome. I must has it!
It's so frustratingly simple, yet I can't seem to get OCD on every level! D:
