Idea for hangers: Modification or new Upgrade

Well right now entrenchment is supposed to make defence a viable stratetergy but i am still wondering why in the world does a defence hanger cost almost as much as a real carrier, uses 4 Tactical slots (Tec/Vasari) 6 tactical (Advent) for 2 or 3 strike craft squadrons.

So the 2 ideas are:

1) Lower tactical slots to match number of strike craft wings the hangers hold.

2) Create a new defensive upgrade that per lvl increases the total amount of strike craft wings the hangers can hold by 1. Tec and vasary would have 2 lvls and advent 3 lvls.

Sounds like an idea?

i second this, if hangers are ment to be useful u shouldnt have to build a dozen of them to get the fighter/bomber support u need at a given planet. so would the upgrade be in the upgrade section or be like the starbases?

bear in mind that hangars have many hitpoints. that makes them more cost effective than mobile carriers when you compare the costs. after all, mobility should have its price. that's not to say that the thought hasn't occurred to me before, but I'd say they are more or less okay now, in particular with the nice upgrades they get in entrenchment.

The Advent hangers have an upgrade to let them give Shields (and thus Shield Mitigation) to any other buildings near them, including the other defenses. I'd say they are pretty useful. :)

Considering that mitigation is the primary reason this is useful, it's not necessarily a good idea to build more than one, though.  There's also the issue of the additional shields not stacking (1 hangar defense = +750 shields, but 5 hangar defenses = +750 shields), which may or may not be a bug.

Granted, you might want to keep two around anyway just so you don't lose the shields and mitigation when the first one is destroyed, but beyond that, it's less relevant.

By comparison, the Vasari's hangar ability to essentially disable enemy strikecraft and TEC's flak gun upgrades would be useful with every hangar defense built.  Personally I think the Vasari's is the most valuable, but obviously there will be differing opinions on that.

I'm not arguing against hangars in general, though, and do feel that strikecraft defenses are relatively albeit not completely balanced at the moment.

I agree completely. Fighter support is critical to maintain starbases, without robust hangars a starbase is pretty much a sitting duck against bomber spam fleets. Unless the starbase hanger upgrade gets an addtional 4 or 5 squadrons, the hangar defense platforms need more fighter squadrons.

If the starbase hangar upgrades don't get more squadrons, they'll never be worth choosing.

the obvious solution is just to give starbases more strikecraft and/or flak cannons

no b/c the flack connons arent the best and take a wile to clear even one squad of fighters and bombers. when the reference data is released i'll play with the base hangers and see if i can give all hanger upgrades as default since bases get raped by bombers as is.

I also agree 100% that there should be more done with the hangers. Honestly, I think there's plently of room on that whole new tech branch for plenty more goodies aside from the SB stuff.

I think a physical upgrade cost to the platform like the SB. Just to add SC sounds marvalous.
