Sins of a Solar Empire on netbooks

Eee PC, MSI Wind, Samsung NC10?

Hello.

I haven't played Sins of a Solar Empire in a while, but when I recently got myself a netbook (MSI Wind), I've decided to give it a try.

I've copied folder with game from my main PC to netbook, ran the game, then quit and edited setting to make screen resolution to be 1024x600.

The game works! I was quite impressed, as I thought it would lag or something, but it actually works and I've played a bit.

But there is a problem - game needs a 768 screen height for menus. So lower parts of menus are off-screen. I've used Tab to select items there as I remember game menus quite good, but it is a bad solution, right?

So, I have a favour to ask from Ironclad - could you please add support for 1024x600 in next patch? A lot of netbooks owners would really appreciate that.

P.S. I haven't found a way to download 1.12 on site. Is Impulse mandatory now?

I'll second the call for this, picked up an Acer Aspire One a few months back and can play SOSE on it, but I have to set the screen for 1024x768 in scrolling mode to be able to get to the menus.

If someone in the community even wanted to make a mod for the interface so it fit on a 1024x600 screen that would be great.

The game itself actually plays decently on the device, it's not fantastic and you may tick some people off if you play a larger multiplayer game, but for single player and smaller maps it does just fine.

Any chance for official support of a lower res screen?

For the OP, yes you have to use Impulse to update beyond 1.05.

How did you do this? I've tried this solution, but game insists on 1024x600. Or did you used windowed mode?

Thank you! I'll have to install it then. Was hoping that I don't have to bother with yet another content delivery system (Already have Steam and Direc2Drive).

Just another user who would love to have 1024x600 support for my Sins fix while I'm out of the country with only my netbook.

Well this problem doesn't effect me since I run the game at 1440x900 but I agree with all these guys.  The game should have a minimum resolution of 800x600, I know it is an old resolution but many users use resolutions as small as this.  I understand that game makers are trying to make 800x600 and other resolutions smaller than 1024x768 obsolete just like they made 640x480 obsolete for PC games for the most part, but 800x600 should be the minimum, this would fix many many many peoples problems...

I have made adjustments to the ui files to allow me to play on my netbook.  It is not a mod, but a change to the individual game files.  If you want them I can email them to you.  [email protected]  just mail me.

Edited gamefiles? Will it still be recognized as the same version on ICO?

No idea as I play offline, however I can see if I can get it to  work as a mod.  Not sure how ICO works, but will give it a try  and post back.

'Nother netbook user here.

I had read about a Sins mod for Eee PC's (like mine) that set the game to allow 1024x600.

If this is the correct place to be looking, I'd be very much interested in seeing this for myself.

I'm not worried about online play; I'll do that on my desktop.
