Two questions

I've had a couple of troubles with modding, so I thought I'd ask and see if anybody can give me a hand.

First off, I have a problem with Galaxy Forge. I can and did create a map, but when I went to the game to play it, I couldn't find it. So I went to the directory I saved it in, and couldn't find it. However, I did find it when I went to load it in Galaxy Forge. What's up with this?

Secondly, I tried to mod the Gateway map with Notepad. After I had finished, I went to save it, and I got an error message telling me it couldn't create the file "gateway.galaxy". The file is already there; it had to be for me to open it. What's the deal with this?

Any help with either of these two problems would be greatly appreciated.

Well, to answer your second question, the file is probably read only. Right click on it and go to its properties, then uncheck read only.

Well, it was marked read-only, but changing that still didn't let me save. It says that it can't create a file, which I'm not trying to do. All I want to do is save an edited file.

Well, when it saves, it probably overrwrites the file (which creates a new file). It is encountering some problem when it tries to do that... Hmmm.

Do you have proper permissions to delete the file?

what ive had to do when it wont let you save it is drag the original to the desktop, edit and save it there, and drag it back, im sure it would work in a number of locations, but i have found i cannot save it while its in the programs folder.

That's because the whole folder is read-only. Perhaps unchecking that would work?

Well, I did uncheck the whole folder as read-only. I've got an early morning tomorrow, but I'll check the editting on the desktop theory when I get the chance tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the help! Any ideas on the Galaxy Forge problem?

did you save it in the program files\stardock games\sins of a solar empire\galaxy directory?

First, I want to thank MattHammer. Your idea worked to perfection, and I started a game in the Gateway map with loads of resources.

Harpo, I'm sure it's saved there. I opened Galaxy Forge to load the map. When I choose to load a map in Galaxy Forge, I can see the file. But when I try to access the file without Galaxy Forge, either in-game or out, I can't find it in the folder/map list. I know I have the map; I can open it in Galaxy Forge. I just can't find it without Galaxy Forge, and that's my problem.
