Starting Strategys (not an arguement just what you do and why.)

As the title says whats your starting strategy and why do you do it.

For me it changes depending on my starting place and how much time i have. If i have a great starting place with no close attackers i econ up then build big fleets if im surrounded by people then i rush and try to frag 1 of them as soon as possible. Not very good at eithier but im at the point where im pretty good at everyting but not really sure of what kind of strategy i want to pursue sometimes i can't evaluate what kind of start i need so i just try a generic expansion but that usually doesn't work. Well thats me anyway id like to know about everyone else and give me a couple pointers if you want.

(excuse my spelling and grammar i just finish a load of work and my eyes hurt.)

  1. Build Extractors
  2. Build Capital Ship port (and one capital ship and maybe some lt frigates)
  3. Colonize an asteroid or two.
  4. Build 1 Civ and 1 Military research center
  5. Upgrade logistics +1 capital ship (x2)
  6. Upgrade fleet size and build two more capitals.

I find that rushing the enemy with 3 capitals in the begining is extremely sucessful.

1. Build Crystal, then Metal extractors

2. Build my Cap factory, and queue my ship (it used to always be Kol, but I've started trying Marza)

3. Build 2 or 3 scouts to check out the area

4. Build as many cobalts as possible (usually 2 at this pont)

4.a. I find I usually have to wait a few seconds here, so I rename my homeworld to "Caprica" :P

5. Send the cobalts at my asteroid

6. Build a colony frigate and send that at the 'roid too.

At this point, it always changes. Soemtimes I'll blitz my civ research so i can colonize volcanic or ice worlds nearby, or if its mostly asteroids, I'll build more frigates and military research. I usually send my Cap alone after worlds so it can max out exp, and have my small frigate fleet (usually 3-6 by now) clear out asteroids. Eventually i have them join up with the Cap and just snowball my fleet through the rest of the galaxy.

Hope that helps!

I usually play as the vasari:

1) Build cap ship factory first - I use the cap ship exclusively to get the first asteroid for the free experience, and the faster you expand, the more resouces you get.

2) Buy 100 crystal and upgrade your homeworld infrastructure - This improves your credit income, the faster you do it, the faster your income increases.

3) Build crystal then metal extractors - At the beginning crystal is more precious than metal.

4) Build 2-3 scouts and set them to auto-explore

5) Take your cap to the nearest asteroid belt and kill the siege frigate, then colonise the planet, kill the other frigate.

6) Things vary from here, but I usually build 1 war lab and research assailants then build as many as I can as fast as I can.

I'm not the most experienced player but I can hold my own ;)

This strategy is for TEC but it can be applied to the other teams loosly

1) Population Upgrade your home planet! This is inportant and often overlooked and it will get you about 5 extra credits a second

2) Start 2-3 scouts (depending on map size) and 3 or more light frigates

3) Cap factory (Quene this first) and start a colony cap building

3.5) Most people like to salvage the cap factory but just leave it the refund isn't worth it (exept maybe Vasarii with salvage bonus)

4) Asteriods and a Reaserch Station preferably civic to reacerch the TEC 30% Discount

5)Send the finished ships at the nearest plannet and send the capital and figgates in oppisite ways if neccisary (friggates always get the asteriod)

6) Start more reaserch or friggates and save money to support your new colony(s)

7) Build another civic factory and get the lava and ice upgrades

Concentrate on military research from here and keep friggates going constantly get LRMs Carriers Flak and another Cap or so and keep pressing forwards try to be agressive but not at the cost of your defences. And that's all I got ATM. Good Luck!
