Making a video.

How and where?!?

Greetings all, just a quick question. What is the best way to capture a video of the gameplay? And is there a way to do it without the UI in the way?

Thanks ahead of time for spending time look at my noobish questions.

Ok, I'll bite.

I believe the tool Fraps is pretty popular for doing things like measuring game frame rates and recording movie videos in games.  I don't think it's free, so there are some restrictions if using the free version.

Thanks this might work just depends on how big the watermark is. Im not paying $40 just record some videos without a water mark

Ctrl+Shift+Z will remove the HUD. Entering cinematic mode will remove infocards and faction marks so you can get full-screen perfectly clean films.

There are many programs for making videos, and I advise Fraps. The trial version has many limitations though, and I think that just won't do. If you don't mind going to the wrong side of the law, you might want to research into that but I'm not gonna help you with that.

another way to remove the UI is to go to options, turn off "show fleets" and "always show fleets", then unpin all the planets and ships.  this may take a while, but it really is worth it.

to unpin, select something (or somethings) that is (or are) pinned, then hit the "pin" button.

I didnt know about the Ctrl+Shift+Z thingy. Thanks for sharing that!!!!! I been playing around all kinds of shots and such. The master plan, is to make a story some how. All depends on if I create a viable story line and such. Eh, we will see.

Well I think you can only recored a certain amount at a time with the free version of Fraps. There is another program that is legitly free. Sadly, I can't remember the name. :P   It is defintly not as good as Fraps though.

Yeah, I was playing with this too..... the only probem is the mouse icon still shows up.

The other BIG problem is replays are borked, so it is hard to get footage from staged stuff.....

Cykur, Fraps (and perhaps some other video software) allows you to disable displaying the cursor in the recording.
