So, I went and downloaded Galaxy Forge or whatever it's called.  But, for whatever reason, it won't allow me to open my map.  Which really is a damn shame, because that program would allow me to make a connection.  Any ideas?

I first created the map with the random map generator.  I then opened it in the Forge so I could connect two of the outer planets together with a chain of astroid belts. 

I tried playing the map, and everything on the map was gone, of course, ending in my defeat.  Would that have something to do with the 1 and the 2?

EDIT: I just checked on the text thing, and it was already on two.  You know, it's difficult learning an anti-user program WHILE learning Vista (I just got a new computer and I really do hate Vista)

It's best not to use both editors on the same map like that as the maps created by each are handled differently by the game. With the in-game editor, there is a lot of randomness and the player starts are added by the game itself. With GF, you need to manually add the player starts, or the game will insta-lose when you try to play it.
