Need to get a ship model in

I have found some ship models I want to use to replace the advent battleships.......problem is I dont know how. I have them saved as obj and skp files but i dont know what the extension is for the ship models in SOASE so I cant figure out how to get them in al I want is to replace two or three battle ships with my own models. I downloaded the forge tools but for some reason I get an error when I want to use particle forge but not galaxy forge. I need help please.....LOL. No really I just need a little guidance or if some one would like to take the models I found and convert them for me so I cant just simply replace the other ones that would be great.

Thanks

Dude the top pinned post in the mod forum is titled:

[Tutorial] Modeling, texturing and importing models into Sins...

You need to read through it but the long and short of it is download the XSI softimage mod tool, import your OBJ files, do some conversion/texture work save them as an XSI model, then convert them with the mod tool and import them into SoaSE to see the results. Then sort out the weapons and effects....

Once you have learned how to basically use XSI you should be prepared to spend 10+hours (significantly longer in some cases) per ship model to do the conversion, so if you are asking someone to do it for you :moo: , good luck. Your best option is to do one yourself and show/sell the idea so if people buy into it you may get some offers of help.

Also a word of caution, if you are using other peoples models the onus is on you to get permission or follow the conditions of usage, a good example is modellers don't often like their models used out of context e.g. USS Enterprise fighting a Star Destroyer.

Yeah when I found the model it was not displayed of who built it or when. It is a atlantean designed ship but I have no I dea who built it and I would not use the models to play online just in my single player games.

Also I have no idea but do you know why I cannot use particle fordge in the tools download. It just gives me an error.

I would probably not have time to build or convert but I might be interested in paying some one to do it we will see. I really appreciate your help and your reply.

do you know where to find the XSI softimage mod tool for free? or is it something I would have to purchase.

Again, Thank you for replying to me I appreciate it.

Hey frankybonz

All you need to do is copy everything from within the ParticleForge folder and paste it into the game main directory, and the tool should work.

You can download the XSI softimage program from the link below.

I hope this helps you with your questions. B)

Thanks for the link I found the mod tool but.....I know this might sound like a dumb question but the main directory where I place the forge tools would be in the folder sins of a solar empire which is in microsoft games right? The reason why I ask is because there are so many folders for this game like my appdata folder under ironclad games is where I put my mods and so forth I just wanna make sure I am putting it in the right folder. So I assume then it would be in microsoft games\sinsofasolarempire.

Right?

Thank you for your help I had no idea that you guys and girls are as nice and patient as you have been and it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

Beats me why you would even have a SoaSE folder under MS Games.

Should be in Program Files/Stardock Games/Sins of a Solar Empire

Its not a dumb question I should have said sorry about that.

On my XP OS the games main directory is

B:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire

On my Window 7 Beta OS the gamse main directory is

C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire

The only reason my I can think yours is in the microsoft games folder, is because you changed the default root to the game, when you install it. B)

Well mods can change frequently and if you read the Microsoft Developer best practice stuff it basically says that application data should not be written to /Program Files/... in much the same way MS Word documents default to a folder outside of the MS Office installation path.

The only MS Games folders I know of are in Program Files and the Start Menu Programs folder. Is there another one?

In other news, I need to start proofreading what I write before I post it.

No the file path is c:\program files (x86)\stardock games\sinsofasolarempire      I messed up I was thinking about my old freelancer games pathway.

But I just wanted to make sure that I put the forge tools, particle forge, and galaxy forge into the right folder. before I do.......so I guess I take the entire particle forge folder and so on and extract them and drop them in the sinsofasolarempire folder.

Right?

LOL Sorry......Again

Thanks

Hey Frank

If it was me I would make a backup of the Sins of a Solar Empire folder before you try anything, then if you mess it up you won't have to reinstall the game.

The first time I tried the tools, all I did was extracted the ForgeTools1.1.rar  onto the desktop then I copy what I needed.

So for the Particle Forge tools, I copy and pasted all the files from the ParticleForge folder, into the C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire folder.

I hope this helps, just post again if you need more help.
