Playing a d/l Map

I'm having an issue with playing a downloaded map.  The problem is I can load the map but as soon as I go to play the map the game ends automatically.  I don't have an issue finding the map in the custom folder I changed the versions on all of them to 2.  It's just as soon as I go to play the map the game ends and i'm playing with a full contingent of AI players I don't see why the game won't create the map.

Thanks

I think in this case the map has a flaw with the AI's homeworld. Do you get a victory screen? Open the map in GalaxyForge and check that every AI has a homeworld assigned.

yes it goes to a victory screen.  How do you assign a homeworld?

What version of the game are you on?  If you're on version 1.12 and you try to play a map that was made with a previous version of Galaxy Forge (version 1) then it won't load the map properly.  This is very easy to fix.  Just double click the map file and open it up in Wordpad.  Near the top of the file you'll see a line where it says "Version Number".  Make sure the version number = 2, save if you changed it, and try again.

I'm using v1.12 i've already stated I changed the map to version 2 these maps are off the d/l site.  I still don't see why none of them are working for me.  All of them go to a victory screen right away.  I assumed since they are off the site that they all would all work to the point of being able to load.

Did you put them in the right place?  The MapName.galaxy file goes into your main Sins GALAXY folder, not the Application Data folder.

I am having the same issue.

Downloaded the maps, put them in both the main sins galaxy folder AND the

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy  folder.

I also changed all the numbers to = 2 since I have the newest update for my sins.

As soon as the game starts I get a "Defeat" page.  And when I keep playing, no stars show up on the map at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Since this is not my post, and it might be hard for me to find it again...my email is [email protected] in case you are willing to email me an answer.  If not, I will try and find this post again later.

Thank you.

Yes I put them in the right folder same place the guy above did.  I'm baffled.

Lack of homeworlds is the most likely issue here. If you open the map in Galaxy Forge, there should be a planet with text over it saying [some player name]-Home for each. If there is not one for every player, it can be set in the Ownership category in the properties box. Just set the homeworld line to true and pick a player to assign it to.

If no homeworlds are set at all, then the map is probably made from the in-game map editor; it needs to go in the galaxy folder under the user folder and should appear in the Custom Maps category of map selection rather than by size.

OK lets see what I can add here to help get this issue resolved.  This isn't just a single map not working i've tried up to 6 of the highest rated maps off the download section of this site.  Not a single one of them are loading I find it hard to believe that every single map doesn't have a homeworld established.

Some of the maps i've downloaded are (chokepoint, Alpha random, Bablyon 5)  these are just three.  They are all located in the correct file and they all go to victory as soon as it's loaded.  As previously stated if you click continue playing there is absolutely nothing its a blank map.

Okay, this worked for me:

Put the maps in BOTH locations as stated above.

Changed ALL galaxy map files to = 2 (some were 1...some were 0...I changed and saved the change to 2)

Then instead of going under 'custom' maps (which never seems to work correctly for me) I found the actual maps (by name) under small, medium, and large map lists...and ran them from there.  ALL work for me at this time.

Hope this helps whoever else is having problems.

While we're at it, I'd like to report problems that some people have had getting my custom maps to work.  For some people they work without a problem and we can play them online.  But for others--even when they at least say they've put them in the right folder (and not the Application Data folder) they still can't seem to run them (and this isn't a Version=1/2 issue).

This problem could probably be solved by enabling auto-download for custom maps.  The online multiplayer community really wants it and I hope that you guys will fix that.
