Sins causing computer to freeze

I recently purchased Sins of a Solar Empire via the Digital Download, which I installed today. However, since then it's been freezing my computer, where the only solution is to turn off my computer or restart. No error messages, simply freezes up entirely.

The problem occurs always. However, it occurs immidiatly if I:

-Open the menu.
-Change any options.
-Sit idle in the starting menu.
-Play for a while.

I have updated my Graphics Card to the newest driver version.
I have also uninstalled / reinstalled the game.

Some system specifications:

-NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Graphics Card
-AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.41 GHz
-3.25GB of RAM
-Windows XP SP2

If theres anything else that will be needed to help find the source of the problem, be sure to ask.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated!  It looks like a great game, and I sure can't wait to play it - Just a few bumps to get over it seems.

I have the same problem. Here is the information I have gathered so far:

    • Proposed solution: increase pagefile (Not successful according to poster)
    • Conclusion: conversation derailed into a rant about the proposed solution. Poster apparently is playing XBOX 360 instead of Sins. The problem seems unreselved.

    • Conclusion: 1 person confirmed that it worked, some had trouble installing the driver. I don't like the idea of using old drivers, and have not tried it yet.

    • Conlcusion: multiple confirmations, but I do not run Vista so it doesn't help me

    • Proposed solution: specific driver version 175.16 (drivers for series 9 works for series 7 as well)
    • Conclusion: multiple confirmations

My system specs:

  • Pentium D 3Ghz
  • 3GB RAM
  • XP SP3
  • NVidia GeForce 7800 256MB

 

My hypothesis:

It is either a virtual memory problem or a driver problem. I have no idea how to resolve the memory problem, so I'll try to install a specific driver that is known to work.

 

If you try it, please post your findings.

If you think everything is right on your side of the computer you can always email [email protected] with any and all the info you can summon. They will help if they can.

I've tried drivers 175.16 and 174.74, but I continue to crash.

I will email support, but they should really be looking at the forums. By answering the questions in the forums, Ironclad would lower the support burdens by allowing users to help themselves.

[email protected] is where you send ICO issues

[email protected] is for Impulse etc...

Those responsible have been sacked.

Anyone getting the mini-dump errors need to send the file to Ironclad, not Stardock. [email protected]

There is a know issue with XP and AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.41 GHz;

The AMD update is found here;
 http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

Go to bottom of page and use the link that reads 'AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.0053

 

See if the update helps.

Sounds similar to what's going on here with a few people.  Problem still happens with version 1.13 of Solar Empire.
