Demigod: A little MMO in that RTS please

Demigod: A little MMO in that RTS please

One of the many things about Demigod that makes it different from your typical strategy game is that it contains a persistent universe.

One of the options in multiplayer is to join a tournament. This tournament pits the forces of light versus the forces of darkness. 4 of the Demigods are associated with the forces of light and 4 with the forces of darkness.  The test screens we have above don't reveal which 4 are on which side but you can probably guess.

These tournaments are expected to go on for weeks and, if all goes well, eventually we plan to expand on these tournaments with other types of tournaments (generals vs. assassins, clan based tournaments, etc.).  It all depends on how popular these tournaments work out.

Another aspect of the persistent world is that your Demigod earns favor points when they play online (whether it be in skirmish, tournament or whatever other crazy thing we think of). These favor points can be used to purchase items that become part of your player and stored on the Impulse reactor.

So start thinking about all the cool things you wish RTS games did from a persistent universe point of view and let us know because we're definitely open to ideas on future types of tournaments, ladders, empires, clans, you name it.

Any plans for matchmaking based on a player's rating?

I imagine normal ranked matches will have this feature.  Having it for tournaments would be cool too though.

One thing i would like that i never saw is sup com or sins is a way of upgrading you demigod with purchasable objects.

Example: Skilled bracers: start one level higher than normal (level 2) stackable to level 3.

Having items that would allow you to gain level. These items would never be lost and wouldn't affect any equiping in game (such as using 2 pairs of gloves) They would be starting bonus's that could give you the edge. Along with this you could sell items that you get for a slighly lower price than you bought them. The items on your demigod would contribute to your demigod skill. To stop issues with this have all of the items multi demigod based.

Also there would be 2 rankings. Demigod starting strength and Skill level. Combine these 2 and create an overall ranking. This makes it so you could still make the game fair as sort of a handicap if one person unequipped all their items and played a noob. Of course this would have an effect based on opponent strength in relation for skill handicap.

You wouldn't want to lose just becasue you didn't equip your items and lose HUGE amounts of points in Skill level just becasue the person was more equipped. So it hsould be a proportion like lets say each item is worth BLANK amount of xp that at a certaint point negates lost Rank. I'm sorry for being vague but words desert me for this type of thing.

Claify is that item blank gives you an extra level that is worth 10 points. If you win you get 10% less xp/favor because the opponent didn't have 10 points. But if they had the same thing it would be even. No clue how you could do this in multiplayer but it would work in single player. Maybe having an overall pool. The other person wouldn't have a penalty even if they won wiht less points.

This sounds a lot like achievement items which are implemented already in this game.  And they already have a setting to remove acheivement items for noob or tournament games.

Yeah, the achievement items will probably basically do what your post suggests.  You will get better ones as you play more, and the automatching feature will take your items into account when it sets up games.

Dodn't no if its been implented yet or not but I would like to have some acheivements that u need to do a cartain thing to get it. example. If u destroy 20 buildings in one game u get a weapon that doubles your attack on buildings.

I like this idea

Why not stick a little FPS in that RTS? Play as grunts or minions from a first person view, depending on what your team has spawned.

Now there's a game that would get frustrating quickly.

the rason I suggest this idea because I'm hoping people dodn't just get all the favor points from comps even if their a nub. I think some hard challenges should have acheivement items that reflect what they did.

Or simply link the achievement items to online/multiplayer challenges.

"Kill 20 Rooks online"

Etc.

ah that would be smart wouldn't it. gj pies.

"Kill 20" Rooks Online is a great idea. Then when you kill 20,  you must complete stage 2, "Kill 200 Rooks Online" Etc.

You might unlock more guns, more special abilities, that doesn't necessarily make you more powerful than your foes, it just gives you more options.
End of goodgimp's quote

Yes! Exactly!

One thing that drives me mad about a lot of games with persistent elements is that high-end players are virtually unbeatable to newcomers, not because of skill levels but just as a matter of number crunching. There's nothing more infuriating than losing in PvP (of any genre) just because your character is lower level - it doesn't add anything to the strategy involved, it just pointlessly restricts gameplay to high levels. It's the equivalent of playing a first-person shooter, and having enemies 'resist' or 'block' a perfectly accurate shot just because they're got phat lewt.
