Clearing mines

Clearing mines

Entrenchment needs mine-sweepers!

AS has been noted by several other posters, I strongly recommend that a mine-sweeper frigate or cruiser be incorporated into the game. When the AI (or perhaps other human opponents for those who play online) engage in mine-spamming it can significantly impair mobility in a star system if done extensively enough. While the idea of being able to place mines is great, every move should have a counter-move. I'm currently reduced to using a "spare" capital ship as an "ice breaker" when I feel I need to clear out a field.

Well If you went that way with disabling mines abilites what stops someone for run some scouts through a mine field disable all the mines then allow thier fleet to walk through it un damaged?

Am I understanding what your suggesting correctly?

Not really, since the mine would only be disabled while there's a scout detection in range. As soon as the scout leaves, the mine is enabled again. Think of it as jamming the mine. If the scout reveals the mine, it's not a far stretch that it can also prevent it from detonating. But as soon as it gets out of range, the mine's good to go again. So, you would still need to progressively clear a mine field, it would just save the jump-in and ships turning headaches.

Agent of Karma, I know exactly what I'm trying to say. I'll restate it so that hopefully you can understand: I believe that mine sweeper ships, designed to remove mines help to balance the game. You called that tedium and preventing the use of mines. I disagree with you because using a purpose-built craft to remove mines is preferable to using a scout/frigate/capital ship that must be sacrificed or damaged to clear mines. That's it in a nutshell.
