[Idea] Starcraft Mod?

Hey, folks. This hit me recently, wondered if perhaps it was possible.

So what say on a Starcraft Mod? It would be limited to air units of course, and scale-wise the units would be rather off, for the most part, and there would be tons of complications every which way, but I think it might be possible.

I have no modding experience whatsoever though, so it may not be, but if it is I can help a bit, maybe, at least with unit counters and whatnot. Ie, Battlecruiser = Kol or Kodiak (Depending on wether or not the capitals would be totally new), Guardian = Purge Vessel, etc, etc.

I won't post all that to begin with, in case it's impossible, but it would be really fun (Scourge Rush, eh?) or at least I think so. Thoughts on it?

Well, I dont think there are enough air units to make it a good mod. But I could be wrong.

Well making new units based on current ones shouldn't be a problem, like making the zergling evolve to a state of having wings or something since the Zerg do evolve a lot...that unit could be used as a fighter squadron and a differant evolution of the zergling as a bomber squadron.  Than you have other already air units such as what the Mutilisk evolves into, giving you three air units for the Zerg already from that.  The Protoss and Terran shouldn't be to hard to make ideas for since they make things out of technology and not evolutions, so all you would have to do is make a Protoss or Terran themed ship and bam you have air units.  Hopefully someone will pick this one up, as it is an awesome idea, but it will be hard for sure, hell aI run a mod way less complicated and it's annoying to do...

Aye, I thought it might be quite difficult, but as far as units themselves go, as you said, it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Current units, modifications to them, plus whatever is coming out in SC2, would fix it up nicely with a bit of imagination, eh?

But, the rest of it I can't say anything for. Still, if somebody does happen to pick it up, I'd be willing to sign up as Beta tester for sure!

Blizzard is very protective of their IP's, and since SC2 is on the works, modder(s) would propably get a "cease and desist" order faster than you can say "WTF?"

There is a fundamental problem with this, not enough flying units

 

Although, you can change the game, instead of building mining rigs, you building mining drones

Like I said earlier, I could (probably) figure a unit for each of the standing ones in game, plus help design a few extras for what is lacking. Alot of it would have to be non-canon, but, ah well.

ToJKa has a good point. It would more than likely need to wait until after Starcraft two comes out, if it could even start then. Still, 'tis a hope.

that would be an awsome ability for one of the zerg ship. asumeing this ever gets done.......if i knew how to mod i would do it my self but as for the people that can........anyway so how do u mod anyway if i can learn mabey i can start on what i have in mind and when SC2 come out i could show who ever can really mod well and they can improve

u can't really rush zerg, rush here can only happen here if you launch an insanely large fleet on 1 planet at a time, and the time to travel in planet rings is too slow, generally the game is too slow for starcraft

well what if u give a zerg ship an ability to increase the speed of units around it by like 200%

starcraft is designed as a land game, not to be confused as LAN, that means units run on the ground, and when u attack, u can flee so easily cause u have the z-axis to run from also, which means giving the enemy time, sure, u can cancel out the z-axis, but I don't think you can't (at least I think u can't)

if u dont think it could work y try and tell the people that think it could be done that its not possibale it will just make u look like an ass hole if some one does pull it off

But, With old and new battlecruisers, with swarm fleet, Good Protos fleet, Domion fleet, Hyperion, etc..
